Where can an experienced Conguero get effective instruction media of advanced modern salsa conga techniques for the  "Timba" style on two Congas?

This new style sounds like a perpetual solo improvisation with lots of flams, rolls, and double slaps. It works with 2-3/3-2 clave but more complex than the classic Tumbau/Montuno. Cubanismo plays it on the Reincarnacion latin jazz album.

For me Giovanni's Congo Virtuoso is a good showboat but it lacks the instructional breakdown that I need to learn. Other media teaches basic Tumbau/Montuno for Salsa and Afro-Cuban rhumba for Congas - these I already know well.

You've been to timba.com I would imagine...?
Kevin, the guy who runs the site has written a few books.
He's a very nice person, and I'm sure you could e-mail him directly and get a quick informative response.

Hollow a log into a drum.
It's the space inside that makes the sound.

Has anyone bought anything from this series: http://www.descarga.com/cgi-bin/db/20531.20?jQThGyMR;;794

I sounds promising but I don't see alot of "buzz" about it, maybe because no one heard of this Tomas Cruz guy. (well I haven't anyway Smiley )

Tomás Cruz Conga Method Vol. 3 DVD/book package is a very good one. To my knowledge the only book ever written on the subject of Timba conga drumming. Volume 3 is an depth in study on "Tomasito"  very tasteful style as he documented it on Paulito's FG, "Con la Conciencia Tranquila", considered by many one of the best Timba albums ever recorded.
Hope this helps!

Tomas Cruz Conga Method is a very student friendly instructional package.  as a teacher (not a conga teacher :-) I really respect the effort invested to teach in those three instructional volumes.  As a conga student I have been disappointed by a lot of video/DVD instructionals.  In one of his volumes it says that he is coming out with another instructional later that focuses on the more folkloric cuban rhythms.  I can't wait.
