I'm trying to more fully learn Moeller. I have the Chapin Video and have looked at a bunch of Internet clips. I stumbled across the Internet site on Moeller attached below. In my opinion this site gives the most comrehensive history and explanation of the Moeller technique....period (yes even better than the Chapin video). The author (TW Hanson) did a great job. I'm curious what you guys think; particularly the right hand finger bounce technique. I've never seen this technique before. So far, my limited experimintation with the technique indicates some promise. I want to use only one technique (i.e. Moeller vice Freehand)and Moeller seems to be the ticket. I want to focus on one technique 'cause I already have enough bad habits to "unlearn." Thanks for your input.

A very  well written article and a good alternative to just telling folks who ask about the Moeller system to just go buy so and so's video.

Nicely done.  Would have liked a bit of narration in the videos - and maybe an alternate camera angle here and there, but overall they're well done.  Nice text and demonstrations.

Gave me a flashback on the opening page where here referenced N.A.R.D. - I still have a membership certificate here somewhere!

Mine was in a damp cellar for many years, not much left of it.  Still have a couple of shoulder patches and the pin, though.

Thanks for the tip, bean6022000. The article's great. I'm downloading all the videos right now, but I have dial-up, so it'll take a while. Great site, though. I've downloaded this and that clip too, trying to get a handle on Moeller, and this website looks like it might be the ticket.

This is the first site that I feel is actually teaching me what Moeller was talking about. Between the text and the videos, it's starting to work for me.

I don't have a teacher. Everything I've learned in the past year and a half has been off the Internet. If anyone else is in the same boat and wants to get a grasp of Moeller, try this site.

I agree.  Combined with the Chapin video, I think I'm beginning to get a handle on it.

Isn't that little finger hold wild?  Also, I e-mailed the Moeller article's author about the right hand finger bounce thing, and below is his response (text starting with "Hello...thank you for your e-mail)."

Are you using the RH index finger bounce yet?  It seems so contrary to the conventionsal "all fingers from underneath" method.  It's weird, I watch all these video clips on the Internet, and they all use the index finger thumb hold (as do I).  However, I have a very bad habit of squeezing at faster speeds and/or at louder volumes; particularly with my left hand, which really impedes my playing.  I'm hoping moving the fulcrum back to the other fingers will help (so far it seems to hold great promise!).

Hello...thank you for your e-mail.

To answer your question...you might try
to purchase Sanford Moeller's book at the
following URLs: (see below).  You can probably
purchase one for under $10 +shipping

http://www.fifeanddrum.com/store/index.htm?detailed=Moeller+Book

http://wwws.sheetmusicplus.com/sheetmusic/detail/LG.11-106.html

======================================================
My copy is over 50 years old and I paid $1.50 for it!
Let me know if either of the links above do not work.

What I'm trying to do...(why I wrote the online article)...is to show
that
Moeller represents a unique and genuine school of drumming that few
have
really understood.

The 'Moeller grip' takes weeks or even months to become accustomed to.
Many
give up on this and never train the little finger to make use of the
longer
fulcrum.

Best wishes,
TWH

Wow.  I learned something today.

I have the Moeller book, but the darn plates are so ridiculously small it was impossible for me to do a complete study of the book *or get started to be frank*.

Little finger as a fulcrum?  Pretty cool.  I learned another fulcrum point today.  That's 4 I know now.  If I could play traditional I would be happening!

I have the same problem, books that were easy to read years ago have shrunk so much they are hard to read.  I guess it was the way I had them stored.   Grin

Tim Waterson (yes the one with the flaming feet) posted the comments and link below at Drummerword.com.  I think it is a good video and helps further clarify the Moeller technique, and its use on the drumset.

Great Link I think this should help a lot of confusion on Moeller.
I have heard great things about Tommy.
Seeing as there is NO drumset videos from Tommy Id let you kinow I have another clip on using Moeller accents around the drums in my tip or trick of the month for November.

Hope this helps and God Bless
