I had seen the pics of the snare you posted in this thread. It came out pretty cool. When I bought the stain to do my snare drum my boss suggested I get a colored stain instead of a traditional one. Green in my case, since I had originally wanted to paint my snare British Racing Green with white pin stripes (still dreaming of a kit like that). I opted for walnut though. I was too scared to try the green stain, at least on this particular shell (means a lot to me and didn't want to mess it up). So what you used was a dye, and not an actual stain? I know you can control the translucency when you get the stain mixed at the paint shop. I love semi-transparent stains. I like to be able to see the wood grain as well. The walnut stain I used came out so nice on the maple wood. The spar varnish I put over the stain only helped to bring out all the different tones and a hint of amber glow. 

You should make some matching sticks. heheh

Anways, here are my babies

The ones on the bottom are after i got my new heads. If your wondering where my double pedals went on the bottom ones, i let my friend rent them for a month for $10 (hustler). I still didnt get them back, and its been over a month, but i realized i dont really need my double pedals and i pretty much only use them for some accents and fills. I could live without the double pedals, but the single pedal im using (the kid i rented the pedals to) is a generic no name brand (groove percussion) pedal. Actualy, thats the pedal from my old kit, because hes the kid who bought my old kit.

but anyways, onto the pics

anyways, after about a month, i had somthing happen to one of the lugs in my 14" tom, so while i was fixing it, i tried a new setup







they got fixed about a week after i took those pics, which was a few months ago

but anywaysk, heres them with the new heads, new toys (cowbell, and tamborine), and missing the double pedals. It took me a lonnnng time to figure out where to put my cowbell, comfortably (the bass drum didnt work out for me), but i found the perfect place.

and yes, my crash cymbal is cracked (getting a new one for christmas)

Anyways, the drums are Pacific FS, in blue to black fade. 8, 10, 12, and 14 inch toms, 22x18" bass, and 14" snare. The heads are Aquarian Studio X, and i love them more than anything. They sound AMAZING. They got rid of some of the overtones, but they still know how to sing.

Cymbals are Meinl MCS crash, hats, and ride, 12" wuhan china (love it), and an 8" ziljian zxt splash that i actualy have had since i had my first kit, before i got my MCS. The origional kit only came with a crash and hats, no ride. So unitll i had the MCS, i only had a crash, hi hat, and splash. I didnt know what was more important back then.

My Dad brought over a box of pictures he found when he moved recently. In it were pictures I didn't know existed, including this one of my first set. Ludwig 60's vintage 3 piece, rotoroms, and Tama concert toms. All cymbals were Zildjian. The wacky looking hardware mounting the Tama's, the roto's, and some cymbals were all made by my Pops the toolmaker. Man I wish I had those back, mismatched and all.

Looks great!  Very nice job wrapping the bass drum counterhoops.

7 pc. Pearl Custom Masters.. purple stain with brass hardware. RMV Snare  rescued and lovingly restored from a Music-Go-Round.. they threw in the rack for free.  Sabian Paragon and Paiste Cymbals.  3 Roland synths, SPD-11 and SPD-S Pads



I'm currently re-finishing my very first drumset for a practice set.. i'll post pics when done...

I love those F3K snares- such a youthful birch like *snap* with gutz.  Bet you got it for a song too.

Here is the "new to me" Ludwigs set up as of today. Pacifics now reside stacked in a corner. I'll be wrapping the cheap infinity add-on toms in red this winter.

Here's the new console! We used it this weekend and man was it great! I'll put up a full review after New Years. That will give me some more time to find out more about it! I can tell you now that the first impression is VERY GOOD!
