Just back from a band practice, and I played 'Basket Case' by Greenday, and I've never had to play so fast before. Now I'm back, the top of my right arm is crippled with cramp, it seriously hurts! Is there any way to avoid gaining a souvenier from your latest band practice like this?

If it hurts, STOP!
Period.
Now, about how to achieve the speed/stamina you need to get through that song and others like it......
1) Practice at slower speeds and work up to to proper tempo.
2) Warm up good before playing.
3) Relax instead of tensing up!!
4) Low=Go. Don't waste stick motion playing too high.
I' have dreadfully oversimplified this answer, but it's what works for me and many pthers.

Apollo, "Now I'm back, the top of my right arm is crippled with cramp, it seriously hurts! Is there any way to avoid gaining a souvenier from your latest band practice like this"? Plenty of fluids and a banana a day will fix this problem. Nutty

All of the above.
I don't usually pick at people's signatures but Krupa died long before Buddy, so could not have said that at the funeral.

funnily enough I logged on today and was gonna post about the same thing, I've been drumming for about 9 years and gigging for two of them, but I still get the occasional arm cramp, happened to me at a gig last night and it does have a big effect on my drumming. Might try some arm exercises before going on.

Try some Capzasin HP cream. I have been using it on my shoulder and Paul Harvey recommends it. It really works but wash your hands real good after you apply it. It gets very hot!!!! Nutty

Last night my right leg cramped so hard I had to get out of bed and walk it off! I hit the rack a 2am! At 4am I was yelling and jumping up out of the bed like someone had just shot me! It scared my wife to death!

I'll support the bananas (potassium) and water. I usually have a bottle of GatorAde with me since it does replace some potassium. We've been playing sets of about an hour and 20 minutes lately and I've found that I can actually cramp right below my hip! It's not a fun thing when you're trying to keep the kick drum going.
