I have found that one gets more flies with honey than with vinegar.

It's not about you versus them -- it's about how do we all serve the music best, with the people and gear on hand.  Those who do this well, with a minimum of difficulty, usually get a chance to do it again. 

If being a nice guy is a problem, you probably will not have much success -- in any field.  There are more than enough competent folks with good people skills, particularly at the upper levels, to bother with hiring someone who is needlessly confrontational.  Being observant is no justification for being difficult.

In life you have to be able to take criticisms on the chin, even if you believe they are unfounded.
I have no problem with stickers rant. I disagree with some of his 'tips' and so far I've found stickers to be unresponsive to the views of very experienced musicians on this forum.
Putting myself to oneside, more than one member here has enough top level experience to debate with any soundman on the best ways to achieve a good sound.
All I see with stickers is an inflexible repetition of his original points.  Undecided

You are right, no matter if he is right or wrong, he has stuck to his guns. Also, everyone has an opinion.  I don't really have to agree with any of it, but he has
shown that he is not very flexible.

I have been a pro sound tech and drummer (not at the same time) and have worked with some of the largest systems on the planet so I can see both sides of the argument.  People skills and a sense of humor are what I consider to be the best assets in both situations.  Ive worked with drummers who refuse to be miked outdoors and have ended up taking the heat for the bad mix and drummers who wont play without 16 mics for the kit when I only have 12 channels for the whole band.  Ive worked with sound techs who think its really cool to have the drum mix blasting back at me at 117 dB and those who dont think a drummer should have a monitor even when Im singing. 
The biggest problems come when the drummer and sound tech wont compromise with each other.  There is a middle ground between the two separate worlds of techs and drummers and a lot of it comes down to common courtesy.  If the drummer insists on hitting the kick while the tech is setting up the kick mic the tech will get a bad attitude in a hurry.  If the sound tech is talking on his cell phone and ignoring the system feeding
back the whole band will get an attitude.
I try to look at the big picture and see myself as part of an entertainment event. This helps keep my ego in check and makes for a smooth gig.

Hang around the DC for awhile and show some manners, "stickers", and you might find that you'll enjoy this site - provided that you can be 'enjoyable' in your posts, as well.  It's a cool place to be......if you want it to be.

yawnnn... seen it all before. I am the admin on another site with 50,000 members and see this alot.

Stickers knows what he is doing.  Wink

He's thinking, "Let's stir up these guys with some in-your-face posting and vulgar text masking."  Annoying? Yes. But it does add some goofy online drame...LOL heck we are at five pages now.

Some guys come into forums and seek to become whipping-posts while playing the room like a violin. These zygote trolls can be entertaining...until they are not.

Stickers bud...don't think we DON'T have your number Wink

Just played a big outdoor gig last night. First thing I did on arrival was find the sound guy, introduce myself, and tell him the basics of my kit. Had a few minor issues with the sound guy at the start, but once we got them worked out everything went fine. I always make a point to track down the sound guy after a show, shake his hand, thank him and tell him if he did a good job.

Being polite has never cost me a cent.
