Hey guys, so a guy at a GC in Fairfax, Virginia convinced me to be a set of Evans EMAD2 batter and Evans EMAD resonant heads while I was over in Washington D.C. to see the pope.
Anyways, he tells me, since he's been a metal drummer for 15 years, that it is a sufficient head because it offers different choices with the different selections of muffling rings, also, because it sets out a low end boom. But I've also heard from online feedback that the EMAD2 is a very good head as a batter, though with both EMAD batter and Resonant heads, it kinda chokes it out. But I want a sort of "slappininess" to my kick when I play, and he says that it would do fine to do that. And that it wouldn't choke it.
I was going to buy Aquarian SKII and Regulator black heads, but he said that'd be more of a "thud" than a slap.
Now I wanna know what anyone with any personal experience has to say about the heads... The resonant head in particular. And I aiming this more to the metal drummers because I know how most drummers don't really like that "slappy" sound.

I agree with the salesman that there's an element of flexibility in the design. It's not my favourite Evans head though. And by the way, I like a drier bass drum sound, it's just that I prefer to dial that in with dampening, rather than starting with quite a dry sounding head to begin with. It's all subjective though. If you are concerned about the front head, I like to use an EQ3 Resonant.

I have used the EMAD 1 for a few years then tried the 2 when i realized that it existed. I love the sound of the EMAD. Its my FAVORITE! BUT, the plastic rings that hold on the foam break within a month for me. This is under pretty heavy gigging and playing metal, so of course it takes some beating.
I eventually switched to the SK1 because I just couldn't deal with taping up the head every month and then buying a new one when I couldn't stand having a broken ring anymore.
Soundwise: I love the EMAD but I was going for more of a thump than a slap. On the flip side, I beleive you can alter that sound through other routes as simple as tuning or batter badges.
Hope this helps. I have also been ogling the new remo bass head with the external snap on damper. Check it out, I don't remember the name of it.

I have been using the EMAD drum heads and EQ3 on the resonant. That "slappy" sound and feel which I like ..I haven't been able to get. I have the res head fairly loose as well as the batter side using the thinner muffling ring and I have to really lay into it to get that attack. I am eyeing up the Remo Powersonic heads..this link brings you to Remo site you can look and listen. Good Luck http://www.remo.com/portal/products/3/8/49/680/cl_powersonic.html

remo powersonic probably- hot sounding head. I heard one on a sonor delite kick and about soiled myself, then I heard one on a ludwig classic kick and was left cold. http://www.remo.com/portal/products/3/8/49/680/cl_powersonic.html

Lol, I just moved on from the Powersonic if you haven't checked when I made an earlier thread about it before like a year ago. I found that it gave some of the characteristics, though it was more of the "thud" than the "slap" that I want. I'm actually debating whether I should slap that on with my EMAD resonant black just to see the results, but I've considered just getting used to my new sound and see how it comes out first.
I'd actually recommend the Powersonic, some say bad feedback about it, but I say it just requires a bit more of a good ear, tuning skills, and maybe a pillow if you want more control. But good head, I like the focus that the pad sets on it. I haven't busted it yet, but I felt that it was time to move on and experiment a different head.
Try it out, and see how it fares, I was fairly satisfied while it lasted me.
