you really have to travel to San Francisco to find decent tea.

Our tea drinkers have failed to find satisfaction.
I don't mind, I'm a coffee drinker. When in Rome.  Wink

Well, as they also say, there's always a sting in the tail.
We've been gigging with one or two support acts. One is a female solo artist, the other, invariably a four piece band.
Tonight we suddenly have three new support acts. All have drummers and one is a 7 piece.  Huh
I have to be at Raleigh airport by 7am tomorrow morning and we usually start our set between 9:30 and 10pm.
Suddenly we're looking at 11pm at least.  Tongue
No sleep 'til Hollywood.
Pardon me for having a moan.

The saga continues.....
No monitor guy (second time in as many weeks) and the main sound guy has an attitude.
My monitor is awesome loud (not asked for) and my bass drum sounds like a tin can (also not asked for).
God knows how it sounds out front.
OK, I've defended sound persons in the past. To be fair, 99% of the people we've come across (both out front and monitoring) during five weeks on this tour have been great.
My only regular irritation has been guys setting up mics around the kit before I've set half of the drums up.
At one show I moved the mics 3ft from the kit, 3 times!
Now I just tell them upfront.  Lips Sealed
Like I said though, I've still had a positive experience overall.....and these are pretty small, local venues.

You're exhausted, will have little or not time to sleep before an international fleet, and the sound guy just graduated from the Metallica School of Sound.

The Law of Touring suggests this wil be your best show of the tour!

Well "The Law of Touring" is really just a guideline isn't it?...  Wink

Chris, Thanks once more for sharing this trip with everyone! Probably hundreds of drummers have enjoyed and appreciated your posts... I sure have!

Well--well--hopefully they're a very raucous 10! Sad

I've flown out of Raleigh-Durham before. It's weensy, so you shouldn't have to wait in a huge security line, at least...

The whine continues......
The show wasn't great. The sound onstage was quite atrocious.
It's 1:30am and we haven't loaded our trailer yet.
It'll be well after 2am before we get back to the hotel and I have an alarm call booked for 6am, to get me to the airport on time.
Did anyone think this was glamorous?
Raleigh to Dallas, get off plane. Dallas to LAX, get off plane.
If I survive all that, I have more than 24 hours to relax and recouperate in LA before making the final connection, LA to Sydney.
 Wink
I've circumnavigated the globe since July 11th. We've driven over 11,000 miles on the tour bus too.
The last two shows were an anti-climax, even a let down, but that's sometimes how it goes.......in the real world.  Wink
Thank you all for reading. Thank you too for the kind comments and interesting questions.
It's been great to meet some of you. To put a face (and body) to the online persona.
Maybe we'll do this again sometime.
(Perhaps I've raodied my last drum kit. wooohoooo!  Cheesy )

Thanks for taking us along, Chris!  This was a very enjoyable read and I'm sorry I was unable to see one of your shows as I'm still stuck in S. Korea.  As you said, maybe you'll do this again.  Smiley

I've not commented on anything up till now but have very much enjoyed reading the various postings on this subject.  I've always wondered (won't say WANTED) what it would be like to do something like this.
thanks for your willingness to share

Chris,

I’ve read all of your posts with great interest.  Getting a taste of the “behind the scenes” was just great.

I’m really glad you enjoyed touring the USA, it’s great to hear your observations.  My only disappointment is that you’ve probably seen more of the country than I have!

Thank you for sharing your experiences and we all wish you a safe trip home.

Chris,

It was great to meet you in person in Raleigh, and, as you suggested, I've joined the site. Now how am I supposed to get any work done? :0)

Hi Bart. Long time, no see/talk. Hope you're doing well. I'm going to try to make it to Nashville in November. Hope we can hook up.
