It sounds like his ride, and, while that snare sound was common enough for the day, it sounds like his stroke.

Might be! That's definitely a Gadd-style groove, with the left hand on the hihat and the right on the ride. Other possibilities would be Jerry Marotta or Chris Parker. Nice groove!

Vinnie Colauita did the theme for ALF, which has some nice drumming on it.

I'd still like to know who played on Barney Miller. That was a hip groove, and not at all a typical hihat pattern.

Might be!...Nice groove!

A nice song, too.  Certainly more organic than the version most commonly associated with the series.

A shot in the dark---John Guerin.  The snare and the groove in general sounds Guerin-ish; I get this from its similarity to Joni Mitchell's "Help Me", as well as his playing on a Carol Kaye CD I got with an order (Bass Performances).  Incidentally, that's fairly much Kaye's sound and style, though it's not her; I forget who at the moment.

It's almost assuredly Steve Gadd, but I've been fooled before. I thought Gadd did Night Court, but it was in fact Ralph Humphrey, who sounds a lot like Gadd behind the kit. Marotta is another guy who can sound like Gadd, but unlike Humphrey, claims he's his own man and Gadd stole from him. hehehe (Not to bring that up again, but Marotta and Gadd were roomates in the early 70s in New York and did a lot of criss-cross gigs, especially a lot of jingle dates for about 20 years in NY, LA and Atlanta).

Keith, I've heard different stories on the Barney Miller theme from my long-time LA friends, but Humphrey is usually the name that comes up on that one.

One of my favorite TV themes is the Sanford and Son theme, and I believe underrated session drummer Grady Tate did that one. Love the BD lick on that one!
