My brother, who is a premier guy, loves his XPK kit. He originally started out with the Genistas (Birch lacquer finish from the mid 90s) and added an XPK kit a few years later. The XPK kit has a 22-inch kick, which he prefers and he usually takes that kit out when he gigs.

The kit looks nice.
I would probably try and learn to love the colour. After all, it's the sound that counts.

Yes, I think I'll give up the idea of putting on stickers, which might make the kit really ugly, and I've already started to tune my brain to the colour. E.g. I tell myself that the black front head with the big white logo looks fantastic in the red background. Or I think of the fact that plain bright colour is not at all fashionable in my country these days, so this kit can be a great exception. Or I'll try to talk the band members into old rock and roll and rockabilly (I don't think I can), which would go well with the colour.  Wink  And I'm trying to find pictures of great drummers on the net playing a red kit, this helps as well.
Anyway, whenever I have a chance and there's somebody around, I always ask them to sit down and hit the drums as hard as they can, and I walk out to the next room or the garden and enjoy the terrific sound of the kit, and then I forget the colour.

BTW, do you think some cleverly spotted coloured lights could make the kit look darker and less striking?

After a while your retinas will just burn in the image....... Enjoy it! And please take care of it better than the previous owners of mine!

Making the audience wear black glasses could also be an idea...  Smiley
Yes, it is really enjoyable, it's in great condition. The guy I bought it from lives in a village, and he probably didn't have much chance to gig. I can imagine that he used the kit very rarely. But fortunately, he must have used it enough to wear out the original heads, because now it's got fine Remo heads. (The resos are still the original ones, they are not so good.)

Somebody said in another forum, that Premier sounds better with Evans heads, but I don't believe that, I definitely go for Remo. What do you think?

Hahaha! Yes, sunglasses. Or maybe if you could get your guitar and bassist to use blue instruments you could pass out 3D glasses.

I can't believe the original reso heads are still on that set. At least fifteen years old? I've used Remo heads for a long time, and on my APK. Coated Ambassadors sound nice. I bought some Evans EC2 heads a few months ago that are barely used. I'm going to try them on the 13 and 16 toms of the APK. I do know Aquarian clear Studio-Xs sound great on that APK kit. I was trying out the Evans, but I think I will stick to Aquarian and Remo from now on.

Well, I don't know, the seller said they were original - he may have meant that the same kind as what was on a brand knew kit. I think he had bought the kit second hand, as he didn't know too much about it, e.g. he thought it was an XPK. I may be lucky, because if he had said it was a red APK, I wouldn't have gone to see and buy it as I knew the colour. But I thought of the XPK's rosewood cherry lacquer, so I went, and when I was there, I couldn't help taking it because of the great condition and the Sound Creation, which itself might be worth about one third of the money that I paid for the whole stuff.

Now, do you think small coloured spotlights could make the colour look darker and less wild on stage?
