Has anybody played one of these?

Looks kinda cool, and it's cheap! Basswood and birch - might be nice and warm...

It comes in some other nice finishes, too.

Pretty cute for a buck and a half...

FWIW, mark me down as sceptical.

Might be worth it just for the die-cast rims. Cute, how they copied Ludwig's bowtie lugs.

I'd say it could be an outstanding choice for Mr. A's young niece or nephew, but for Mr. A himself I'm thinkin'  Craviotto... N&C... perhaps a vintage Black Beauty... Smiley

I'm not sure I understand why it wouldn't be a great snare drum?

Pretty cute for a buck and a half...

Is this for your own use?

The reason I ask:  with the snare drums you've currently got, do you really need to drop $150 on "cute?"  I'm not sure that this drum would add any value to your arsenal.  I've always dug Premier XPK and APK snare drums, but I'm not about to go hunt one down - I can't imagine it getting pulled off the shelf in favor of any of my current collection of snare drums.

That Tama may very well be a great "bang for your buck" snare drum - but what good is a bargain if you don't actually need the product?  Better to spend a bit more cash and get something that will augment what you've already got.

(I do have a brand in mind...dare I mention the "T" word where snare drum shells are concerned?  You're handy with tools - for $200 or so, you could buy some parts online and purchase a fibreglass shell from a certain company's clearance list...you know the one I'm talking about...and you would have a drum that flat out kills.)  Wink

Speaking of "nice and warm" snare drums, and what's already in your collection, how's that six-lug Rogers refurb' project working out for you?

That's actually the drum that will keep me from impulse-buying a drum like this one. I still need to replace the strainer on it, but every indication is that it will kick booty. I briefly forgot about it while looking at the Tama, thinking that I didn't own a wood drum in that size. My mistake!

I own one.  It actually is a pretty good all-purpose snare drum.  One of my criterion (criteria?) for judging a drum's sound is the reaction I get from my bandmates when I bring it to a gig or rehearsal.  I've heard nothing but positives from them concerning this drum.

Here it is in action:

I didn't say it 'wouldn't', just that I was 'sceptical'. That's not a considered opinion based on fact, just a gut feeling based on years of experience playing snare drums in all price ranges. I added the phrase 'for what it's worth', because in my opinion it wouldn't add a lot to Mr A's current snare arsenal. However, he's an experienced and probably more open minded drum purchaser to me, so I'll leave the ultimate decision to him.  Wink
Just that my gut feeling is to be sceptical about the greatness of this drum. phew  Grin
