I attended the Private Drum Teacher Seminar hosted by Vic Firth, Inc. on Sunday following the PASIC convention in Austin, TX. The seminar ran from 10:30am to 3:30pm and lunch was provided.

If you are a private drum / percussion instructor I highly recommend that you attend this free seminar. Dom Famularo was the seminar leader and did a great job of encouraging and inspiring everyone who attended. I was presently surprised to learn that a number of attendees had attended past seminars.

I want to publicly thank Vic Firth, Dom Famularo, Neil Larrivee and the entire Vic Firth, Inc. staff for making this seminar available. The seminar was not centered around Vic Firth, Inc., in fact there were no banners or ads to be seen. The day was focused on helping teachers make their private music studios more professional and profitable.

I would like to recommend that all private drum / percussion instructors check out the Percussion Marketing Council at www.playdrums.com; it's a great resource.

I also met a lot of wonderful people during the seminar; fellow drum instructors from around the globe. Hopefully some of them will join the Drummer Cafe community and contribute their knowledge and experiences with all of us.

I just received this certificate in the mail from Vic Firth ...

One of the things Dom Famularo stressed during the seminar was the importance of teachers continuing to further their education and presence by attending conventions such as PASIC, and seminars much like the one Vic Firth, Inc. was hosting.

Allowing students, and the parents of students, know that you are staying current and active with the music industry is an important aspect of retaining a private teaching practice. Dom had a lot of interesting stories to share to support this premise. If you are a private instructor or have the desire to be a private drum instructor, I highly recommend that you check out next year's Vic Firth - Private Drum Teacher Seminar.

I'll be hanging this shingle in my teaching/recording studio.  Smiley
