tl;dr worthy After a bit over 3 decades of drawing breath, only the first seven were without drums. Since then they have always been a part of my life. When other interests or activities were the focus of my attention, they were still lurking. For a period of not having a Set to play, the steering wheel of the car or my knees and chest took its place. I shared a set with my older brother for several years. I remember a, well brotherly , conversation. I had been on for a bit and He felt that it was his turn. All we had were some head phones to jam with and when he interrupted me he said "You don't know how to play that song, maybe you should learn it first. It's my turn." As I was getting up, I said to him with a smirk "I played it close enough for you to recognize it didn't I" and left the basement while dodging a 5B. Nevertheless, I was always impressed with the accuracy with which he could match songs, fills, etc. Walking into the house within a few seconds, I knew what song he was playing. That just never was my style. I like butchering songs to make them the way they make me feel. From what I have read so far on this forum, I am on the other side of the curve and will not have much to add. I will lurk, but in this situation, I feel it is more read, think, absorb- repeat and contribute when I can. Ross

Hi, I guess I'll introduce myself since I've been lurking here for a bit. My name is Mark and I am a bit past the 4 decade point. I grew up in MA and now lay my hat in the Inland Empire of SoCal. I've always loved a variety of music. I first started playing drums back in high school. I bought a 4-piece piece of crap from a guy I worked with. Took a few lessons here and there. I was never one for structured practice, I just loved banging away to to the radio or tapes. By the time I turned 18, in true Kieth Moon style my set layed in busted-up splintered ruins. Anger issues maybe? Now after a 23 year break I'm jumping back in with a new Pearl set and an appreciation for taking it slower and learning the basics first. These boards seem pretty cool with good info and I'm sure I'll be asking for advice a lot, and hopefullyill be able to add my 2 cents at some point.

Welcome Mark- Glad to have you aboard. Spend a while here and you'll find more than a few who've, for one reason or another, taken a break from drums and come back to it with a renewed fervor. Glad to hear of your newly aquired purchase and don't hesitate to jump in with ideas or questions, if we all had none of those this cafe wouldn't exist.

I've went around to many sites looking for a wide mix of people interested in drums. I keep coming back here tho. Even tho I've played for over 40 years, this place is by far the best. Welcome aboard.

Hi everyone, I've been posting for sometime, but never really introduced myself. My name is Jorge Canela, and I am Portuguese (small country next to Spain). I have playing bass for 10 years, Guitar for 8, and drums for 6 months. My main instrument is guitar, 'cause ppl kept telling me I was playing too many notes on my bass guitar I did a two year audio engineering course, and actually teach several subjects at a Music Technologies Institute in Lisbon. So basically I do everything music related: perform (live and studio, guitar and bass), compose, write lyrics, record, edit, mix, master, musical directing, arrangement work. I love rock (I include metal under rock), prog, classical and pop. Like some other stuff too, but this is what makes me move. I am now doing a two hour, daily drum practice routine, and expect to hit the stages with my all original band (Seed, hard rock trio) in the beggining of next year, with the production of our debut album starting at the same time. Cheers

Hello everybody. This is my first post here. I have been playing drums for quite a while now. Since 2002. But, I always played in a band and never had time to really practice. I played only during rehearsals. In the last year and a half I didn't play at all, because of other obligations. I started playing again a month ago and I'm really keen to learn playing drums properly. I never had a teacher. Internet was my only resource and it's the same now. I found this website and it's very helpful. I've always wanted to learn how to play a double bass pedal so I bought a Sonor DP 472 R. As for the Metronome I'm using a Korg LMA 120.

Well, I've been playing professionally for over fifty years. My background is in jazz, rock, blues, country, classical, you name it I've probably played it. I spent quite a few years in Chicago and did studio work there for about seven years and played with an eight piece horn band doing originals and BS&T, Chicago, Maynard and a lot of R&B. I was the percussion section leader for the Missoula, Montana Symphony for about three years. I've had a many and varied career from funk to big band. I've been playing the same set of Red Sparkle Buddy Rich Celebrity Rogers Drums for over forty years. 22x14 - 9x13 - 16x16 and I added an 8x12 a few years later. I purchased my COB 1963 Dyna-Sonic new in the summer of 64. This set has been played professionally almost every week since I bought them. The greatest drums ever made. I bought my zyldjians, after four months of trying cymbals, at Franks Drum Shop in Chicago. I'm married and have lived in Missoula, MT (The Last Best Place) for the last 32 years. Looking forward to meeting some of you and sharing what I have from this wonderful business called music and learning from you. Jack

This is my setup for rock and big band. When I play small jazz groups I go with four drums. I'll get a picture of that setup and post it. Thanks for the interest. Jack
