I'm kind of in a dilema here ....

about a year or so ago, I bought a Musser M55 "G" (G = gold bars / finish) brand new, and I might sell it this summer

its "factory tuned" to A440

the reason: I just don't have the time to play it

I see you can buy new ones for around 3900 / 4000

has the shallow drop cloth, variable-speed motor and is it MINT condition ...

by mint, I mean if you saw it in a music store, you would swear it was brand spankin new - no nicks, dings or scratches on any part of the instrument ...

If I decide to go thru with the sale, what do you think is a reasonable price that someone would pay ?

TIA

I have no idea of the current value.  When you first posted I was thinking that Bart, James, or Larry would be the ones with an informed opinion.

I have no idea. You know what you paid for it, you know what retail is, and you know what kind of condition it is in.

My rule of thumb is that I never pay more than 70% of Retail for used gear. The reason I set that "rule" is that most things are available at 50% Off if you know where to look or who to talk to. The exception would be collectibles where are no longer being made. I know you won't go for the 70% off retail, so I don't know what to suggest.

Start with a little less than what you paid for it and see if you get anyone interested. That's all I could suggest with such an expensive item.

Thinking back to the ones I saw come into the Musser factory floor for refurb work:

If its in great condition (the pulsators work, no squeaks, no chips or dings in the frame or resonator tubes, no bent posts, cord & springs in good condition, no missing insulators, the res tube caps haven't shifted, the damper pedal assembly works, no scratches or problems with the adonized finish on the bars), ask $2,500 for it.  Take $2,000 if someone offers.  If you have a fiber case, throw it in to sweeten the deal.

BTW - Useless trivia here. . . I wouldn't call the M55G rare, but we did not make a heckofalot of them.  M55s were most popular in regular silver finish.  The M75 was the big seller in gold.
