I've posted pictures of my other kits in this configuration in other threads, but I've not posted pictures of this particular set before.  I think it's unique enough to warrant a look!   Grin

Obviously I have them set up differently than a "traditional" kit.  This is a direct rip-off of Bill Bruford's kit.  It's also inspired by Dony Wynn, DC member chefdoug and DC founder Bart Elliott, whose threads about remote hi hats gave me courage from afar to take the plunge.

cool config!  I recognized the Bruford layout immediately~
nice to see other folks going symmetrical here too.  I've been setting up in a similar way for a while now;
I love the central hat and mirrored elements.

this was my initial experiment with a symmetrical layout;

it has since grown and tipped a bit out of perfect balance, but the middle hat and ride on either side is something I'm definitely sticking with.  Willl be doing a little searching here to see how other folks are doing it, as I see you mentioned.

I finally got around to taking some pics of my set

I bought this 5 piece white Premier Set in '74 (new), Ziljian cymbals

Pearl pedal and cymbal stands (the original Premier ones finally broke down)

Fiberskyn 3 heads (except the snare, thats a Remo Renaissance head)

LP Cowbell, blocks, "ching" ring, Tree Works chimes and my favorite Clayton Cameron brushes, Roc N Soc ...

I've been playing as part of a 5 piece "House band" at a club since 98 on a regular basis (5 times a month at just one club) plus the other occassional gigs at the "Animal" clubs (you know - Elks, Moose, Ealges LOL)   We play 30s 40s 50s 60s music.

We will never be on any CDs you'll find in your local store, but hey, I'm a steady working musician, which is more than some can say, and I'm fine with that

Ok,  this is my first attempt to post.  I have GAS - I'll enter rehab eventually, likely with intervention.

My brand spankiliciously new Sonor Force 3005. I just couldn't wait until I got it into a rehearsal space, I had to set it up in my office just to see it completely set up. And MAN does it lok purdy  Grin

Sonor Force 3005 (14x5.5, 22x17.5, 10x9, 12x10, 16x16)
Evans heads (apart from the Aquarian kevlar snare head)
Zildjian A Custom cymbals (14", 10", 14", 16", 18", 20")
Pearl Eliminator pedals
Gibraltar GRS-350C rack

Yup, I'm in love  Shocked

On a side note, I am VERY pleasantly surprised with the Aquarian Power-House kevlar head. I'm a fairly heavy-handed drummer, so I needed something I wouldn't go through in a week. I figured I'd go for the Power-House, but wasn't expecting it to sound all that good, so I'd probably be swapping it out for gigs and recordings, but it's an awesome head. Very sensitive (more so than any other "hard-hitter" head I've tried) and very cracky. It even sounds half-decent for brushwork (not anywhere near great, but I really don't use brushes more than once a year anyway).

I'll get a few more snaps once it's not set up in a tiny room facing the wall  Grin

The toms are

Pearl MRX customs
on the left
8x7
12x9

on the right
10x8
16x16

I want to replace the 16x16 with a 14x10, it'll just make a lot more sense!

The snare, unfortunately, is an old piece of ****. I want to get a new snare Sad

And I want to replace that stagg on the left with some sort of nice jazzy ride.

The cymbals I've got at the moment are

Stagg 18" medium brilliant crash
My little secret hi-hats of intense awesomeness
Stagg 8" splash
Zildjian 17" Z custom Medium Crash
22" Sabian Paragon Ride

Yeah, the setups influenced by that hi-hat position thread. I like it. It doesn't make much sense when you look at it, you've kinda got to make it make sense while you're playing it.but I can still play it as if it were a standard 4 piece kit just with the hi-hats in the middle if I want.

Nice kits guys.  I'm a lurker here for sure.

Set up the Sonor Signature 5pc kit  (early 80's) bubinga veneers over 12 mil of beech.

Put some new ludwig silver dots over ludwig clear med's as well.  These have some nice zing to them on these tubs:  10x10, 12x12, 17x15, 18x22 and 8x14 snare.  With these super deep drums you can really hear the difference between the bottom reso and the batter.  So it was alot of fun dialing in some tones, especially with the decay part of the drum sound.  I really enjoy this combo- it's pretty bright, but these drums are very dry, so it makes for a pretty cool sound.

Can't wait to see how they sound with the band.  I record with these drums now and then, but never do any live stuff, until now.  So that should be interesting.

Enjoy... maybe?

yeah, I just hit them with the orange oil before that pic.  They have been covered up for awhile, that's for sure  Undecided  But thanks a bunch for commenting guys.

I guess people prefer the older bubinga veneers on these to the newer bubba finishes.  The new one looks kinda fake to me.  The DW veneers though are pretty tough to beat.  But this isn't a kit I want to play out, maybe if I really knew the venue.

But these are what they are.  Maybe some of you guys remembered when I ordered a Designer kit about 3 years ago and they totally screwed up the order?  So I found these in a drumshop in Canton (South of Akron)... played them, liked the sound and ended up saving quite a bit of dough compared to the newer Designers (which are discontinued now BTW)  Roll Eyes.

Thanks alot for the kind words Byron.  I got to play them some more yesterday.  And what else can I say?  They really don't suck.  Really different sounding kit.  I think I'll go play it some more right now  Grin
