Welcome to the Cafe Mickey Dee,
Nice Kit.  How do you like that Gong? Just curious.  I was thinking about one of those myself but I am into Paiste and Paiste gongs are very expensive.

I'm half way thru a series of six Bottle Band shows.  We sold out all six shows, so we'll be contributing back a nice amount to the local charities.

I have a very small amount of stage real estate for these shows.  I'm using a couple of pieces from my small Ludwig set (1970s), a pair of Ludwig tymps, and an assortment of sound effects.

Using a Meinl clamp-on trap table, Ludwig lightweight hi-hat stand, 20" bass drum, 12" tom, Acrolite snare, 16" K Custom Session crash, 12" K splash, 18" K Custom Session ride with a strip of cloth tied on the post to dry up the ring a bit.  There's a bulb horn attached to the splash arm.  The boom stand just beyond the hats is holding a Mark Tree (and a fan).

On the trap table: DC-powered siren from a police car (there's a battery charger on the floor to handle the AC to DC power switch.  I connect the charger's alligator clips to the siren to set it off), metal slide whistle, Zildjian Burma Bell, and a cup of Starburst candy for when I get the munchies during the show (actually they're a good remedy against dry-mouth!)

Just in front of the drum set are the Ludwig tymps.  On a small Gibralter trap table mounted between the tymps is a wood block, another bulb horn, finger cymbals.  Mounted on the right side of the drum set: a crank ratchet and a mambo cowbell.

Fun show.  Lots to do!  Last shot - the whole set up, from the front. . .

It looks like one of the old Rogers wood beaters.

That's a Ludwig wooden beater.  Sounds great on that drum.  Just the right amount of thump, and it feels great on the old Speed King.

Im a pretty intermediate drummer, playing for about 3 years. Im only in 8th grade, and i was on a tight budget for my first set. Here it is:
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I play a Pacific by DW EZ Drumset with a Jet Black Finish  Cool--
*10x9 Mounted Tom
*12x10 Mounted Tom
*13x11 Mounted Tom
*16x16 Floor Tom
*5 1/2x14 Snare Drum
*22x18 Bass Drum

I also use Zildjian Cymbals--
*ZBT Rock Pro 14 inch Hihat Cymbals
*ZBT Rock Pro 16 inch Crash Cymbal
*ZBT Rock Pro 20 inch Ride Cymbal
*ZHT Pro 14 inch Fast Crash
*Avedis Zildjian 16 inchMedium Thin Crash

I also use DW pedals--
*DW 4000 Double Pedal (Currently Using)
*DW 7000 Single Pedal

And Lastly I use Remo Pinstripe Clear Drumheads.

My camera's busted, but here is a visual aid of my kit.

Finally got some pics of my stuff

My kit setup in the basement, the Christmas tree in the background maybe permanently be setup just to class up the joint a little bit. The ride on my right side looks like its farther away than it really is, it's hovering over my floor tom. People say all the time that my kit is setup funny, but it feels fine to me.

its a little uneven, because its a work in progress. Should be getting another crash for my right side and a lower floor tom.

I want your snare, Bob. Do you need a good hound? How about a small-block Chevy engine case?

Gaddabout: Sorry, I like it too.  I already have two hounds, and the small block would be nice, but I would really like a 429 Supercobrajet...in a 69 mustang.  Yea, it is a really nice sounding (and looking) snare.  the shell is from RhythmKing, the lugs and strainer are Trick. I have posted pics of the snare before..It does sound sweet.

DrumNut, Gracias...the kit sounds nice too.  I never get tired of setting up for a gig and having other folks come up and watch their jaw drop a little.  It is fun to play and like I said, sounds great.  Easy to set up, easy to mike and great fun to play.

DFJC: I'll try to post a review of my pies maybe in a week or two, maybe some sound clips.
As I have mentioned, I recently jettisoned my Zildjians (for shame...) in favor of the Istanbuls.  They sound great and I am playing everything from Lucinda Williams to Iron Maiden with them.  The look is unique and they have simply great all-around sound.

Cheers, Bob

LOVE the Roto set Bob. An absolute dream of a gigging set and such a cool sound you must be getting from them.

DT,
Thanks again. I can imagine for a lot of folks, this might be a dream kit...though a lot of therapy might be needed, too. The sound you get is completely head dependent.  To that end, I'll be needing new heads soon and am entertaining rec's for new heads.  I've always played remo...CS dots back in the 70's and 80's, pinstripes in the 90's and early 00's.  Now I have PS3's on them.  I play fiberskyns on my "regular" 5-piece with Rennaisance's on my snares.  So, if anyone has any great ideas for more "musical" heads on roto's, I am game.  The clear PS3's sound pretty nice though.
Again, thanks for the look. Bob

I started using Attack/Terry Bozzio heads because they came with a kit I once bought, and I loved them so much I couldn't stop using them. I wonder if the same would hold true for rotos, since Bozzio includes them as part of his regular kit and he tunes his drums so musically.
