Play a standard dotted 8th and 16th note shuffle with the the 8th notes and 16th note patterns. Play a triplet shuffle with the 8th note triplet

patterns. When you get these really smooth sounding, switch the shuffles (dotted to triplet and vice versa) around. I was assigned these when I was taking lessons in 1979 and had since forgotten them. Although I was still playing some of them as clowning around exercises.
