I've been experimenting with seat height position and I'm trying to find the optimum seat height.
I want to know if a person's height is relevant to a drum seat height by getting a sample set, so, how tall are you and how tall is your drum stool?
Mine:
Height: 72 inches
DSH: 21 inches

I'd say it's definitely relevant, but also based on a person's preference. some people like sitting high, some low. I go a bit high coz I'm 59". I'd say my throne is probably 36" or so up.

I'm 71 inches (about 1.8 meters for our metric members), but it's really more about your inseam than your overall height. I'm all torso. My inseam is ~ 31 inches. I have a friend the same height and his longs are much longer than mine ... maybe 3 inches longer. He can't sit on my throne.
My suggestion for good posture is to put the seat as high as it can go while still keeping your feet comfortably on the pedals.

My height is 5' 9" and my throne is 22." Unless, of course, the cat has been playing "race car" through the house. Then the throne is higher or lower...... I haven't figured out if she is just running across it and it is spinng up or down or she gets a running start and gets on top of it and spins around....... The later would explain the ocassional goofy attitude.

My height is 6'2" or 74" and my throneis set at 24". However I also have a canister throne and it is 23" high. This I can't change. I notice the difference when I first sit down, but I can adjust to the one inch difference in a short time. I just use a half inch longer pair of sticks.LOL I do beleive what was said earlier concerning what feels good to you. I don't beleive in throne height to match up with body height. When I first started out I always had my seat much higher than I now ise it. As time went by I lower the seat and felt much less discomfort at the end of the night.

I adjust my seat so my thighs are almost level, maybe the knees an inch lower at the most when my feet are on the pedals.

I'm 5' 10" and I don't know my throne height cuz I've never measured it and its packed up. . .
but. . . at my doctor's suggestion, my seat height is set so that my thighs are parallel to the floor (eases back pain).
I also use a throne with a backrest.

Ditto on the backrest! I use the TAMA First Chair with backrest. Best bucks I have spent on drum stuff. A drumming must is a throne that fits your butt. |

I'm 5' 10" and I have the seat about 22". My thighs are slightly angled (not parallel to the ground.) I just bought the tama first chair with backrest. It's nice! I got tired of hauling my Gibralter moto seat with backrest back and forth from church so I finally just left it there and bought this. I totally agree about having a good throne!

Throne 18"
Throne is motorcyle type
Height is going to be variable as there are people out ther 6'2 with short legs, and 5'2 with long legs. There also drummers with twin kicks which widens the foot positions and affects throne height, sometimes lower is better. The general rules would be better to follow in this respect. Feet placed on pedals so they are at pre stroke position, knees slightly below level ,seems the norm? Best bet to experiment, just alter a little at a time and try it at each setting for a while before changing.Goal to find most relaxed position where feet can play the sweet spots of the pedals with out any strain.

I'm 76" tall (6' 4"), and my throne is at 22". It hits my legs just below the knees. When seated my knees are slightly lower than my butt.

Hello,
Heel up players only:
I found that the best way to determine optimum seat height for me, is to measure the distance from the floor to the inside bend of my knee.
Once you have that give or take a quarter inch or more, to find your most comfortable spot and write it down.
You will find that this will give you the 90 degree bend (Legs parallel to the floor) that everyone talks about.
My best seat height is between 18" - 19".
I am 5' 10" tall.

I'm about 6 feet tall and I can't tell you exactly how high my thrown is but I like to sit with my waist a little above my knees. It just feels better to me. I always have to raise the throwns at Guitar Center to suit me.

Smogg, if your throne is 36" high your feet don't touch the ground.  that's more or less accurate! I don't fair well in public washrooms, either. feet dangle. I was guestimating, but it does feel like it's about that high up. |

Well THIS is interesting, especially seeing people's actual throne heights vs. their total height. I'm 74" tall (6'2") and the top of my throne is 21" from the floor. I don't stray more than 1/2" from that either way. And I've got one of those big soft Pork Pie thrones, so when I sit on it I'm actually more like 20" from the ground.

5' 10" 21" +/- 1" (as long as my thighs are slightly angled I am happy). When I first started playing I sat very high--but then I was six inches shorter--so maybe the throne was still at only 21" |
