ya ever get those little flaps of skin coming off near the sides of your fingernails? i pick at them all the time and make cuts near my fingernail and occasionaly they bleed.

my mom is trying to get me to stop it because "no musician has bad hands (or fingers)" or so she says. These parts of my fingers have almost nothing to do with my drum playing except for fingers 4 and 5 in my left hand. this dosen't bother me at all!

is there any validity to the statment that "no musician has bad fingers"Huh
should I stop it and will it effect my drum playing?Huh

What up dude,
I would dip your finger tips in Vinegar every morning.  It will help remind you not to stick your fingers in your mouth.  Other than a germ problem it is a habit that I am trying to break my kids of. They are doing very well so I guess the vinegar works.  As far as hands, I guess if you are a piano player I would worry about what your hands look like but as far as drums go, who cares.

Yeah, I get those skins splits around my finger nails.  Mine are from working with a lot of cardboard boxes.  The paper soaks up all the oils in your skin.  I now wear gloves when I play, so that protects my fingers when I'm drumming.

Try not to put your hands in your mouth....germy.  Wash hands regularly and use a thick cream on them.  Put a clear coat of nail polish on your nails...(guys can have a manicure) it will deter you from putting them in your mouth, tastes really bad.

Try Corn Huskers lotion.  Good stuff.

You can also try horse dookie!
It may not heal the fingers but it will keep you from biting them.   Grin

This is Kentucky and there is horse dookie all over here.  If this works I could go into business and sell horse dookie for finger nail biters. I am sure they will have plenty at the Kentucky Derby today.  That is about 20 min. from here.
