Background info on me.

Ive been in the percussion field for id say close to 5 years now. I can read music throughly, and everything. I started in 6th grade, now im in 10th grade. I attend a 1a school, where no help is given at all on how to improve on snare. So ive been stuck by myself for a couple years, learning stick tricks through the internet and trying to compose candences and little solos.

http://s130.photobucket.com/albums/p276/JustinCopeland/?action=view&current=MOV05043.flv

Keep in mind ive learned all of this by myself, 1a school, and ive only been on marching style playing ( snare ) for about a year and a half. I can play alot more things, but im really camerashy and seem to lose all my thought when trying to play.

Tips, please. Please dont flame either, i know im not THAT good.

Yes, i played reverse traditional at the end. Thats the only traditional I can play, and im working on playing regular traditional.

Not bad!

Buy some snare books and work on mastering long (full-page) etudes and exercises - that will allow you to focus more.

Also, work on accents. You're good at moving around from one part of the pad to another, but aren't really doing much in terms of dynamics. By working on some challenging snare drum music with lots of accents and dynamic shifts, you'll really add a new dimension to your playing.

Now do me a favor and do some participating here. Read some threads. Post some questions or responses. Don't just be a taker.

We've had a recent rash of "hey look at me" posts from new members, seeking input on their playing or drumkits without taking any time to contribute anything themselves. We'd really like to see a 2-way exchange here, not just offer you a place to show your stuff and get some quick comments.

Welcome. Now, join in the discussions!

The John Pratt book and the Anthony Cirone book would be a good place to start.

Again, cracked record, I don't understand why you are looking on the internet for help rather than checking out a few local teachers.
If I was at a 1a school and not receiving any tuition to advance my snare drum, the first thing I would be doing is researching the local snare drum tutors.
With drumline auditions coming up, I would have thought some personal tuition would be a no brainer, especially as tuition can focus on the subject: success in audition conditions.

Obviously you're paying a lot of attention to what people are saying.  Roll Eyes

You've just gotten advice from two professional drummers, and all you can talk about is getting people to watch your video, or make videos playing your piece for you

Maybe you might want to try posting your stuff on youtube - after all, it's all about YOU.

I tried to help. Oh well. Good luck.

Sorry, not really interested in making a video for you.  There are no quick fix/magic-pill tips.  From what I can see of your left hand in the video you posted, you might want to have a qualified drum teacher help you with your grip. You seem to be holding the stick with only the thumb and the forefinger.

And you'd do well to take the advice of Mister Acrolite and Chris Whitten. . .  there's more expertise and wisdom there than you realize.

You have awfully high expectations, especially for someone with all of 6 posts to their credit. You would be better off spending some time reading on this forum, and maybe contributing to some other threads, before just expecting everyone to drop everything and help you. I am not really even sure why I am bothering saying this to you since it has already been said to you and you obviously didn't listen.

Well, now you've got a week before you can post again, to give you some time to read some posts here.

Enjoy!

I was just trying to get a question across that nobody would answer.

The question was answered, perhaps not in the way you hoped.
Mr Acrolite gave you a detailed critique and suggested a couple of helpful books.
With regards to the audition piece, I strongly advised you to seek a tutor, not try and get a snare etude together on your own with a little help from forum members you know from Adam.
you guys are being gay.

I really hate this used as a way to criticise anyone. As far as I know it's an acceptable way to describe someone's sexual orientation. If it becomes a put down in general we are all in big trouble.
It suddenly seems to have cropped up on forums recently.  Sad

I think it is asking a lot of forum members to ask someone to make a video of themselves playing your audition please.
General help would probably be met with more friendly replies.
Honestly, my best advice was to seek a tutor to get that piece into shape before the audition.
Good luck!

I am sure several people would be willing to play your piece and save it to video.  I am not sure what others charge but PM me for my rates.    There are a lot of nice people here and everyone is willing to help within reason.  You may get better responses if you would lose the attitude.  You should not expect to waltz in here, use abusive language, and expect everyone to instantly do your work for you.
