I got back last Thursday from this year's trip to Humboldt for the Afro-Cuban dance, drum, and song workshop! It was awesome as usual! Francesco Aguebella is still healthy and as much a monster on the low lead drums as ever. Sandy Perez is still phenominal on every drum he touches, and all the other teachers including Mike Spiro were there to have fun and teach as much as you wanted to learn!
I brought back a bunch of things to work on including quinto practices with Mike's coined phrase - Spirology.
But, the most interesting of "new" rhythms I brought back was Sandy's version of Columbia he called - "New" Columbia.
Though it uses the standard 6/8 upbeat bell with cata, shaker, and quinto, I wrote out the block notation for the Tumba and Segundo on my notation page below:

Enjoy, and if anyone has questions about this year's camp, feel free to shoot 'em my way!

No, Gary Greenberg always leads the tubing trips each year, and he didn't go this year.
But, I did make it out to the Redwoods Park about 30 min. North of the college. It was awesome and totally worth the trip!
