Now...I know this might take the post in an entirely different direction, but:  I can't help but ask myself:

"What were the Motown guys using...?"

Anyone wants to vouch for the RK?

I've read on Cymbalholic that the drums on most of the Hitsville-Motown recordings were relatively worthless, mismatched pieces from a pawn shop---so if RK's met those requirements and were found in a pawn shop of the day, "maybe".

Side note, this, but I read in the same post how the heads were ketchup-stained from the drums being used as dinner tables

Anyway, I would DEFINITELY say Supra, both because of Hal, et al. who played it and because it was a common drum that happened to meet the requirements.

Also, I read in MD's Earl Palmer interview that he claimed "Stoney End".

Hal's book "Hal Blaine and the Wrecking Crew" contains an extensive list as well.  I hear he's working on a new book that will have an even more complete discography.

Hal Blaine's list is indeed impressive, but then I began searching Earl Palmer...  Although there is no conclusive list of "Top 10s" like Blaine's, what I found was just as impressive:
