Hi Everyone,

I am looking for some Marimba CD's to listen to.  Who should I purchase and which cd titles?

I have the only 11 year old in NY who would toss his kit out the window for his marimba so he needs to start listening to the masters.    Thanks for any help you can give me.

Hang loose,  Jim P

If you are looking for more contemporary sounds ... check out this CD by Lawless Percussion & Jazz Ensemble.

Larry Lawless is a member here at the Drummer Cafe and wrote two of the compositions on the CD. I also played on the CD and contributed two compositions as well. The album is a mix of contemporary styles with mallet keyboards, drums and percussion. Sample clips from the CD are available on MySpace.

Prism by Rebecca Kite.  I like this recording because it includes some pieces that can be played by less experienced players.  I can play several of the pieces on this disk but I struggle to even think about playing the Stevens pieces.

Evelyn Glennie released several CD's on the easy to find RCA label several years back.  All of the above suggestions are great as well.  She-E Wu has inspired me beyond belief, as has Gordon Stout, and Nancy Zeltsman.  Enter their names into Amazon and you'll find recordings worth listening to.

Thanks for all the suggestions.  James D.   She-e is awesome we have seen her in clinic and asked her questions. She is an awesome performer/teacher.   Gordon Stout will also be purchased.   Thanks, Jim P
