I've been having a week or two of bad days.
Should I just rest for a day?
If you have any suggestions please help.

What do you mean by "bad days"?

If your playing is not what you want it to be, sure take a break. Try to see what is causing you to have the "bad day" or what might have changed that would bring this about. Rest, diet, warm-up, practice or playing are all factors that can affect you when there's a change or lack.

Sometimes we just have bad days. Look at it as a positive thing ... learn and grow from it.

Agreeing with Bart.

Adding.....
I often spend weeks away from the kit.
It's good to rekindle the fire by listening to good music, and/or going out to see bands.
it also helps to give your ears a break. Think about other things.

It may be that your mind has moved on to the next goals you need to achieve, but it might take a little more work for your limbs to catch up.
It's all good (even though it doesn't feel that way). It's all normal.

Me, too.  I don't know what these guys are talking about.   Grin

Actually, I'm still looking for a single really good day.     Smiley

I had one today...

Just could not get on the groove for several tunes I will be playing in a full rehearsal tomorrow night.  My arms felt like lead and patterns I've played hundreds of times before were totally choppy and off.

Now, the reason is pretty simple-lack of a good nights rest.  Lost about three hours of normal sleep, came home from work took an hour nap and got up to practice.  Just wasn't happening.

I put the sticks down...

Yea, it happens.

Well I ain't so expirienced as U guys, but in my time of playing and hanging with other musicians I learned that having a "bad" day is quite normal. That doesn't bother me... It's happening to me even at the rehersals with my band... I just take a day off, the whole band chills that day if that isn't working... although I once had a recording just about to happen and I just wasn't in the groove... I didn't know what to do... so I just picked up my mp3 went to the loneliest place I could find by the river in my town... sat there for about 3 hours, relaxed with some good music and haven't been thinking about drumming or beat or music as a player... I just tuned my self totally in the music and enjoyed... later that evening recording still went like crap... but U know... It happens... As far as I managed to understand it, u need to give yourself a brake from drumming and music in general... so I stopped practicing every day, when I have a rehearsal I don't practice at all one day in advance... Sometimes I feel I perform the best when I haven't played for a couple of days... Your mind just needs a time off...

Agreeing with all above, but sometimes if I have TOO good of a day--the kind where I sort of break a barrier and also find myself playing stuff I hadn't even hoped to reach yet (rare, but it does happen!)--this sort of dooms me to feel like the next few days are bad, just because they aren't as good as that one great day.

Does that make any sense?  You do some really nice stuff, and then expect to be able to do it all again the next day, just the same, but some of it seems gone.  It's like you jump five feet ahead, fall four feet back, and feel bad about it, even though you've actually progressed an entire foot.

Thank you all for the tips.
I think all i need to do is relax for a day or two and not really think about drumming.
Another thing I think that it is, is football.
I'm only in eigth grade and football doesnt give me much time or energy to drum.
Once again thank you all.
