I've had a set for years. I've never taken the time to gain much dexterity with them. However, in what limited practice I've had with them, I can see how they could really help with strength, flexibility and independence of the fingers. How that would translate into a drumming context, I'm not sure.
One thing I do know, you're supposed to have them touch as little as possible for the best results.
Thinking about it some more, if you have the time to flip Chinese balls around in your hand, why not just put a stick in there and do something with it.
(Seriously having trouble keeping a straight face...)

Well, my hands aren't very big, so I have a medium sized set. There are some much larger, in my experience...

thanks for sharing about your "balls" (too easy). I'm going to pick up a medium pair.

I used them a couple of times in therapy and was more impressed by this soft rubber ball that was like soft clay. You squeeze it to strengthen grip like regular spongy rubber balls, but this one deforms for each finger so you can exercise each finger independently. Its fantastic for fingers, but I am having no luck finding one for sale anywhere.

It is not what you have, it is what you do with what you have that makes the biggest difference in the sound!

**completely bypassing topic debasement**
I had a pair long time ago. I thought they were more useful for concentration and relaxation than finger dexterity. but maybe they help.

My girlfriend took my pair when we moved in together as if... I found this site http://www.handhealth.com and I'm guessing ya'll are talking about the finger fitness balls. Chinese balls come in different sizes and weights, so I was interested to see whether anyone had included them in their workout. Thanks for the responses. Shown much disicipline.

...I'm guessing ya'll are talking about the finger fitness balls.... I was talking about something similar to the Thera-Band Fitness Ball. The one I used was more putty-like and larger diameter than the one depicted in the video.
