Thanks all.
I'm almost sorry there weren't more mishaps and adventures to report.  Roll Eyes
The tour went super smoothly.
The Aussie tour manager was excellent. Any unruly musicians fell into line without so much as a whimper. Karl (our leader) was good natured and positive.
The Steely Dan crew were very friendly and helpful. The Dan band were also friendly and enthusiastic towards us.
You'd have to say you couldn't be on a more easy and stress free tour.

One tiny moment I forgot to report........
When we got to Auckland (New Zealand) I decided to go to the arena early to see what hire kit I had, and to put it together.
After a while, the Dan musicians arrived to soundcheck.
Walter Becker was first to hit the stage.
He sat behind Keith Carlock's kit and attempted to play a groove.
The thing that stopped him was Carlock's strangely (IMO) angled kit.
Becker kept hitting the hoop of the snare instead of the head. After a short while he shouted to the drum tech "is this for real?", meaning the weird angles. That made me chuckle. Anyway, he struggled on. Next to arrive was Carlock. And in humerous revenge the guitar tech handed him Becker's guitar. I must say I was amazed when Carlock immediately hammered out a very groovy rock riff. He is obviously an accomplished guitar player too!
Becker was still unable to get to grips with Carlock's kit, so the impromtu jam didn't go on much longer.

Good stuff there Chrisso.

Did you hand Fagan or Becker your card in case they tire of Carlock?  Wink

Seriously though, thanks for taking the time.

You should copy this thread to a file to save it for looking back purposes.

Excellent stuff Chris!  Congrats on a successful tour and thanks again for sharing your experiences with us. The Becker/Carlock attempted jam is classic!

I'm glad you arrived home in one piece and I enjoyed this thread.  THANKS!!!

I'm thinking about getting a dw kit again.  It's pretty cool and close to home *plus it's black* and C-H-E-A-P

Could you tell us some more about your honest DW opinions now that you played a tour with them or is that a tired subject?

Because of Keiths height and preference to be over the kit plus the fact that he uses the Moeller technique to a great extent and likes rim shots on his floors when the feeling strikes is the reason for the angle. Its all in This months DRUMHEAD. Its gotta be great to be back in your own bed Chris. Youll look back with fondness hopefully. Totally cool to read about the tour blow by blow without it being on cable! Cool. Id ask how you did but from your past playing i can pretty much surmise. Get some rest drummer.

I don't think I would be right for the gig.
I'm not sure I want the gig.  Wink

The DW drums were fine. They sounded good and performed well.
To me they are the Hilton or Four Seasons of drums.
They are solidly built, they sound good every time and you can depend on them.
Right now my tastes send me towards vintage drums (the country castle hotel), or boutique hand built (the designer Tuscan villa).  Grin

Very cool!  And yes, even with the audio feed from a video camera, the Craviotto and the Z's sound great!

We have a local venue that's notorious for literally Throwing equipment offstage in between sets.  A typical night is 5 bands/sets, and when a set ends, the house Wrecking Crew jumps onstage and literally Throws your stuff off.  Fortunate rookies hear in advance that to combat it, you bring your own - large - crew, and you flood the stage with people grabbing one piece, rendering the Wrecking Crew helpless.     Smiley
It's kind of like a game of musical chairs, only with gear grabbing.   Smiley

But is that because of your playing or your behaviour after a few lagers?

Yes, that was a press roll captured for posterity.  Smiley

Any of that captured on video for a DVD to come?   I loved it.

Even though the sound wasn't great on the video, it still was an awesome sample of what the show was like... I wish I could have been there in person.
