Hey, Just had to share my excitement with some people who understand, NEW DRUMS! Today I was in the drum shop, supposedly just buying a new head for my snare, when I walk past some ludwig vistalites, curious about how they sound I try them out and 15 minutes later I'd ordered a new 3 piece They're blue and seem to suit my style much more then my Pearl Masters MRX, which seemed to need me to lay into them a bit more then I comfortably could before they'd really get going. So yes, I'm very excited. They're blue. 14x14 floor tom and 14x5 snare. This'll mean I'll have two very nice sounding drum kits, and I'm considering giving my old Pearl Exports to my little brother. Anyone out there got a set? Share your Ludwig appreciation please (and anything I should perhaps be aware of). I realise it's too late for advice on choosing a kit, but I'd still like to hear of other peoples experiences.

Congratulations!
I'm sure Bermuda will chime in soon, joining in on your Ludwig appreciation. And we have a few other Vistalite owners here at the Drummer Cafe (ie. felix).

Yes Congrats, I have played two different sets of Vistalites and from what you were talking about, with having to really lay into the drum kit to get the volume you wanted, the Vistalite series is Loud. They should be just right for you. Great drums!! Nutty

I have fond memories of Vistalites. They were my first real kit. I started when I was 9. Kits were: - $35 junk kit with 1 small tom, 1 large tom, 1 bass drum. 1 crash/ride. No high hat. No snare. Crash/ride fell over if I dared crash it. I had to use the large tom for a snare. Had to live that way about a year. - $130 junk *import* set. Full kit, but really, really, really hideously bad sounding. Had to live that way about another year. - Then my parents were finally sold - and they sprung for the big kahuna, buying me a brand new blue Vistalite kit. I was in drum heaven. Those drums were great. Handle them with care - more care than wood shells. My kit eventually got a couple of non-fatal but disappointing cracks.

So I should buy them some nice hardcases? I've only used a bag for my snare thus far with my MRX. I can't wait until they arrive, I'm driving everyone nuts with my excitement

yeah, get cases if you plan on playing out much- the bags are even ok I think for most people... I unfortunately drop drums though. I get the dropsies sometimes what can I say?
What sizes did you end up with?

The 1st set I ever played was a set of wood Ludwigs. Man, I sure wish I had that set again. They were made in the early 1950's....

Well It's essentially going to be a three piece. I ordered a 14x5 snare and a 14x14 floor tom. Because of my condition I use an electronic bass drum, which is a shame, I'd love to use a real one, but unless I enlist some engineers to design and build an awesome servo controlled pedal for me... heh.

Speaking as a former employee, congratulations on your purchase. Ludwig makes great stuff. I still have a Ludwig set from the 70s. White Cortex finish, 20" BD, 10" & 12" rack toms, 14" and 16" floor toms. These days I mostly take it out to smaller venues/quieter gigs as a 4 piece with one of the rack toms and the 14" floor. Nice drums, they still look and sound great. I know you'll be happy with your Ludwig drums. . . and that new drum smell!

Man, that is one of my dream drums, a Ludwig Vistalite, after seeing Sonic Flood in concert I just fell in love with em (drummer had a 7 piece, 2 kick drums, 4 toms, snare) Just very loud and powerful.

Congrats on the new set. Once I get my Tempus drums up and running, I plan to sell my Maryland kit for a set of Luddies. I may hold out for the new 3-ply drums, depending on price.

Nice Choice Antman. I live in perth also and i have seen the blue vistalite kit in the drum shop and i must admit they are very kwl sounding drums. If it wasnt for the fact that im fourteen and that i clearly dont have that kind of money i would think about getting them for myself but at the moment im saving for a Pearl VLX kit which will take me long enough lol. Hope you enjoy the drums

Wouldn't you just love to live in the drum shop? I love that place and always end up spending more money then I intended.
