Hey, so I was browsing some bands on Myspace and noticed that one of em had SJC custom drums was on their top friends and the drummer for that band was usin em.  I've heard of these before, and I remember it being a snare, it was very poppy punchy sound, sounded like a canny submachine gun type drum.  But I'm interested in the drums cause I looked at their homepage and loved their styles.  But what matters the most here is sound, I looked at their price list, and found out it would cost about $2300 to buy a 10",12",14",16" toms and a 24" kick drum.  I can find a snare for cheaper.  But that's about the grand total.  But I want to know from people with exp. how these drums sound.

This is what I'm lookin into buyin..

Your experience of the snare isn't completely relevant to the kit.
I'd want to try several SJC kits in person before I dropped $2000+ on one.
The price seems OK, but you should see what else you could get for that kind of money before making a decision.

Well that's just the thing.  I can't try one because no retail store sells it, and they're custom, so it's only by order.  I've looked at a couple bands I know that use SJC as a set.  But knowing it might be tweaked with sound engineering, I know it's better to get exp. (if I ever get to), or ask someone else with exp.  And as for looking for something else, I've looked at other sets, some good, some bad, but I'm looking for something different.  Something not everyone has, I heard good things about OCDP drums, and Travis Barker himself owns one, I thought it sounded alright.  But a lot more expensive.

I heard good things about OCDP drums

Ahh, 'cos I haven't heard any good things. Even if this is heresay, I know the OCDP drums are very, very expensive indeed, and I haven't seen anything to justify that yet, other than the hype behind the name.
You can't really buy an expensive drumkit based only on the fact you've seen a couple of bands using them, or a good drummer playing one.
You gotta do the research, and at this stage I wonder if a completely custom kit (you can't play or hear beforehand) is the best way for you to go.

There is nothing wrong with wanting something no one else has.  If you are looking for a kit to play it becomes an entirely different ball game.  There is no way I would buy a kit without hearing it first.  If I wanted a custom kit and was unable to listen to his work locally, I would spend the time and money and visit the builder.  I would listen to some of his work, tell him how I wanted "MY" kit to sound and then make a decision.  Buying a "pig in a poke" makes little sense.

The guys at SJC are pretty cool. SJC is the flavor of the month right now in custom drums so they're getting alot of attention. Kind of like how Truth was a few months ago.

I'm looking for something different.
Then take a look at Tempus drums.  Maryland Drum Company is another highly regarded custom builder (using Keller shells) that hasn't saturated the market.

Something not everyone has, I heard good things about OCDP drums, and Travis Barker himself owns one, I thought it sounded alright.  But a lot more expensive.
First, OCDP is/was popular with a particular segment of drummers.....certainly nothing unique in that regard.  And I've heard totally the opposite.  Biggest complaints concern fit & finish and price.  But, as always, be sure to check them out for yourself.

I've emailed SJC drums on myspace, and they said they didn't have any vids of any drum feat. or demos of somone playing drums.  I've looked on youtube and watched some amateur (whom idk where they got the money for it) covered some songs on some SJC's they were good, but not good enough.  I want some quality sound as every drummer would to get a good indication.  I also liked the drums in the photo I included because our band name is Blood Covenant. So yeh...

As for OCDP drums, I looked at their site, and yes, I agree wayyyy expensive.  Even more than DW i think.  Hell if I'm gonna spend $4000-$8000 on a set of drums, then I might as well get the DW Golden Neil Peart signature set.  And I though that with SJC it's is actually relatively cheap compared to other market and custom drum companies out there, especially DW.

But I'll still browse around in the custom drum product area, just to compare, SJC is just a back-up just in case all others prove failure.

Please don't base a decision on audio or video.
You have to play the things and talk to the guys at the company.
I also wouldn't be attracted by the flavour of the month element.
