Wow Joe,
It sounds like you were playing incredibly fast Grin!!! I hope you didn't need medical treatment Cry?  I hate it when that happens Roll Eyes.

I saw it.  I thankfully was not directly involved.  What's more, the sudden stoppage caused the stick to break in half from the force.

So to be sarcastic,
how big is too big?

Sarcasm aside, I saw Tony Williams play with 2S's with Lifetime. Go to YouTube and check out any Tony video - always big sticks!

I probably shouldn't utter this, since it will probably lead to some shrapnel in my eye in the next few minutes, but ... I haven't broken a single stick this year.  And I'm using stuff lighter than all of you.   And I am - occasionally - making wood chips fly.

Oh that's it---wait until spring, when I'll find some shrapnel and toss it into one of the tornadoes---I promise it'll be flung into Westchester County at the least.

Seriously, though, neither have I.  Of course, I use sticks that are a touch bigger in general (5A-ish) and I don't play hard or with weird technique. I don't think I make wood chips fly.

Thank you David,
When I get home tonight, I will check out some Tony Williams.

Seriously Joe,
I love your sarcasm. What size sticks are you using? Also what type of music do you play? I was asked to play softer last practice for the first time in awhile.  I am working on the staying soft with larger sticks. There is a difference in playing Dan Fogelburg(Whom I heard just died)and Led Zeppelin, Grand Funk or James Gang.
I have gotten so used to 7A's that the extra stick weight feels really good but I know that my volume came up just a bit.

You are right. I got to watch him in about 4 or 5 clips and his sticks are huge.

Thank you, I have never really watched him play before.

WOW. I'm a huge Tony fan, but never saw that video before.  Shocked

The middle section of his solo shows what a major influence he was on Terry Bozzio.

Man, what a drummer.

Yes, I really enjoyed watching him. Very musical drummer. My wife heard me listening to him play from the other room and commented on how his toms sang musical notes.  I can maybe see some of his drumming style in Bozzio. I thought watching him use those very large sticks, he was very smooth and dynamic. I have read many times in your posts Mr. A, where you had mentioned Tony Williams but this is really the first time I have watched him play. Thanks you guys for turning me on to him. You are right Mr. A, Man, What a Drummer!!

Thank you.

I generally use sticks that are 5A-ish in size; no one specific model.

Also, I play anything short of hard rock or metal.
