I don't know that I'd call the drums tiny...
12 and 14 certainly not, kick is a bit small for my taste, but I imagine if you tune it right you can get some fat punch out of it.

Decent EQ'ing goes a long way too.

Nice looking kit.  I've always liked Yamaha.

Thanks.

With no muffling (other than what is built into the PS3 head) and a wooden cube beater, you can get a lot of BOOM out of an 18" kick.

Hi all!

Here's my Sonor Phonics -79. Nothing really fancy in these drums, especially with that Metallic Copper cover, but everything works great and the sound is nice.

Drum sizes in these pictures are 13"tt, 14"tt, 16"tt, 16"ft and 22"bd. There is also 15"tt, but it's in the shell at the moment. Actually i'm playing 13tt,14tt,16ft -set now. The snare is 6,5" Ludwig Classic Maple. Cymbals there are Zildjian K-Custom 20" Dark Ride, K Dark Thin Crashes 17" and 18" (older&thinner, very good), A-Custom 16" Crash and Masterwork Custom 14" Hi-Hat.

Cheers Jack, gimme your acrolite!! Cheesy

Im really liking your setup too Naigewron, is it the 20'' 10'' 12'' 14''fl and 14''sn? Unfortunately im selling mine keeping the rack tho, I hate my power toms; hard to tune and position so im looking into short-stack kit.

No, it's the 14" snare, 22" kick, 10", 12" and 16" toms (full specs are listed in the diagram image).

Unfortunately im selling mine keeping the rack tho, I hate my power toms; hard to tune and position so im looking into short-stack kit.

Those aren't power toms, but they're not exactly short stacks either. Ideally I'd love to shave an inch or two off my rack toms, but it's not really a problem for me. Then again, I'm quite tall and lanky  Roll Eyes

You might be better off (financially) having your toms cut down to short stack depth instead of selling it and getting a new one though. I'd definitely check out if there's someone in your area who can do something like that (or you could even look into doing it yourself). It's not a massive job, but it does require some skill and tools. The 3005 is such a great kit, it'd be a shame selling it.

edit: I just noticed you don't have anything mounted on your front rack bar. Have you thought about removing it and having a one-sided rack on each side of your kit? Might save you a bit on setup time.

Drums -- they make life more fun.

« Reply #74 on: October 18, 2008, 07:33 PM »

Here is my new set -- got in August.  Mapex M Birch 6 pc. in Black Forest Green.  I love these drums!  Easiest drums to tune that I've ever had.  Specs:

Mapex M Birch -- Black Forest Green
8/10/12/14/22, 13" Mapex Birdseye Maple Snare
All Zildjian A / A Custom cymbals except for Paiste Signature Medium Hats (too hard to pass up eBay deal!)

I've been away for a while.  Kids starting middle school and high school has consumed all my time.  I thought I was done with homework?  Wink

(removed one photo -- saw the 1-2 photo limit just now -- DOH!)

The obligatory driver's seat shot:

Doug,
Nice set up.  It could be my eyes, but is the kick beater backwards?

Thanks!  Yes, the beaters have been flipped with the felt side toward the rear.  I prefer the hard plastic side to get a little tap.

Nice set, I've got 2 Mapex sets and they do a good job making drums. Only one question. To me it looks like your bass drum pedal isn't lined up straight with the bass drum on the rim. Is your pedal loose? Or isn't clamped down on the rim straight? Just seemed rather odd to me....  Undecided

I just went in and looked it at to be sure.  It is on there straight.  The pic was taken at a strange angle, though.  I held up the camera using a folded up tripod to get the height (used the self-timer), and it wasn't directly above the bass drum, or even centered properly over the kit for that matter.  I can see that it looks that way, but it really isn't.
