Pacific B.O.A. pedal-

Has anyone test-drove the new Pacific pedal?  I saw this thing in Modern Drummer last night, and have to admit, it looks pretty good!

A bit expensive though, for a pacific.

Better, I s'pose.  Direct drive, some kind of new hinge(less) heel joint?  and aluminum construction, and it's actually adjustable!  (unheard of for pacific pedals!!)

This pedal has been out for a while now...  actually, I posted something about this back in mid 2007...

here...

As it said in there, they said it's better to watch the vid. on youtube...

Cool thing you found it in a mag though...

I tried a single pedal at a local music shop and it's a bit too heavy for me... and plus it's potent to constantly just fall over and lose tension if you push it over too much.

How do you push a pedal over?
That sounds confusing.

I have one.
It shouldn't be seen as a budget product. It's actually a flagship product and an innovative design. Designed by Bob Gatzen for DW. I'm not sure why they decided to designate it as a pacific.
I tried it for a while, but decided I was happy with my DW5000.
I don't really have a conclusion about the BOA, good or bad, except I probably prefer my (straight forward) 5000.

Right, that's what I meant, I mean, it looks pretty good, very good, in fact.  Coming out as a pacific kinda sounds like a mistake on Marketing's behalf.  I'm definitely looking forward to checking it out though.

How's the rebound, Chris?

And like I said, I just saw it the other day for the first time in the mag.  I did watch the youtube video, kinda funny, black shirt on black background, makes it look like Bob's head is floating in space there!  Shocked

Man, it looks really interesting.  I went to my local GC today and the salesman didn't really want to talk about it and told me he didn't have the pdp book to look it up in. (i think he'd never heard of it) which disappoints me and gives me a little less hope in the salesmen there...  It seems to me that this pedal came out years ago and its strange that I am just now hearing about it.  Anyone in the Midwest (particularly SW Michigan) have one that I may be able to fool around with (i can't find a local shop with one or willing to order one for demo)?  Thanks everyone.

Well back in 2006 when I'd heard about its release, I dropped by GC to see if they endorsed the product... but it seems they don't, and they give the usual answer of "we can special order it for you" -.-... But, one of the associates that I'm well befriended with told me that a local drummer had bought one, though he sold it to my local instrument pawn, so I go there and found that it was worth about $70 under them... Which, is not at all a bad price for a recently released pedal... But wat baffled me the most about it was that it had a very smooth plate, not grips or kleets or anything except for at the heel... which gave me the idea that it was based more for the heel-toe drummers...  But when I tried it it felt... alright... just a bit tighter than what I'd usually desire, and again that wierd reaction of the mallet just fallen over... but maybe I was doin something wrong... but I think it was a pretty good pedal... though I thought it sort of just copied Yamaha's Direct drive single pedal's mechanism... it was a pretty innovative pedal... especially since it was made in by PDP...

But yeah, you'll rarely find this anywhere... at all... and if you do... at a very pricey value.  Don't know why, that's what I had found out about it... I even emailed about it to DW back in 2006 about pricing and their double kick pedal sets, but didn't ever receive an answer... strangely enough...

You sure he didn't WANT you to get the pedal? Or hiding the fact that it was a very good budget pedal? lol jk with ya man, I can understand how he doesn't have it...  But it is strange that GC wouldn't have such a high tech model from PDP... I guess they found flaws and discontinued it for further observation...
