"KENYA" REVISITED - 50Th ANNIVERSARY CONCERT!!!

MANHATTAN SCHOOL OF MUSIC
AFRO-CUBAN JAZZ ORCHESTRA
directed by BOBBY SANABRIA

with special guest, NEA Jazz Master,
CANDIDO CAMERO on congas

BRIEF HISTORY:
KENYA was recorded in December of 1957 by The Machito Afro-Cubans and released in 1958 featuring alto saxophone titan Cannonball Adderley, as well as trumpet legend Joe Newman, and conga virtuoso Candido, the music of this legendary recording has never been performed in its entirety. KENYA has been hailed by the critics and cognoscenti alike as the greatest recording ever done by the legendary founders of the Afro-Cuban jazz movement.

Under the direction of multiple Grammy nominee Bobby Sanabria, the entire repertoire of the KENYA album is updated with new arrangements and performed by the Manhattan School of Music Afro-Cuban Jazz Orchestra. Performing with the orchestra will be NEA Jazz Master and master conguero Candido Camero, who performed on the original recording.

Come to this historic event and celebrate the 50th anniversary of this historic recording and witness the power and majesty of the big band Afro-Cuban jazz tradition as we re-visit this legendary album with a 21st century slant at MSM's acoustically perfect Borden Auditorium. The concert will be recorded and filmed.

WHERE:
Manhattan School of Music's Borden Auditorium W. 122nd St. & Broadway, NYC

WHEN:
Tuesday April 1, 2008 - 7:30pm

ADMISSION is FREE!
Parking is available. You may dine in the school's restaurant before the concert.
