I'm interested in buying a Tama Starclassic Maple Snare (14x5.5) for my drum kit.  I think I found a pretty good used deal for $180.  Can you guys tell me what you think about that deal? Also, if anyone knows anything they would to share about this snare drum please let me know.  Thanks a lot.

Hi h0ldmedn ,
I have been playing a Star Classic Maple snare for about 6 years now.  I do like the sound of it but I have experimented with different heads for the desired sound I was looking for.  I think that is an good price.  I guess what I can tell you, and I have heard different opinions on here.  One person felt that this snare was a bit throaty.
I have found that I really like it with a Remo Fiberskyn 3FD Powerstroke 3 head.  It has become my favorite for this snare.  I love the warmth of it personally Grin.
I am now also playing a Star Classic that is 6 x14 and 100% birch.  I really like both of them but this one is brighter and clearer. Hope this helps?

Hey Nutty,

Something about that sentence just doesn't seem right...  Wink

Thank You Ryno for correcting me Undecided.  My mind right now is on the snare I am having built Roll Eyes.

I am just glad you corrected me before thousands of drummers saw my mistake.  Yea,
I know you were funnin.  Ryno, I changed my mind about the walnut today.  Walnut is the most dense wood you can build a snare out of. It would sound more like Bonham's Vistalite snare if you kinda think about it.  Not really the sound I am after. I could post a picture of it in a few weeks when I get it.  It is 1 ply steam bent birch.
After talking to him today, I am really fired up about it.  I can't wait Grin.  Well, I am going to go practice.  Sorry to derail a bit but it is a snare drum thread.

If this drum is in good condition, and sounds nice, I would suggest that $180 would be top-dollar for a used Tama Starclassic Maple Snare 14x5.5. If it's in mint condition, it might be worth a bit more, maybe $200-210.
