Hi Bart,

First off I wanted to say I'm a huge fan of the forum.  It's so good for a our craft to be able to pop online and discuss with other drummers.  I read the threads about rhythmic displacement (atleast the ones I could find).  I understand what it is, for instance accenting every 3rd 16th note in 4/4  (1 ti te TA 2 ti TE ta 3 TI te ta 4 ti te TA ...etc.)  That ofcourse is one of many many ways to displace the rhythm.  I've thought of a bunch of my own exercises, but I was wondering if you have any books to recommend that have more exercises, or books that give specific advice for what to think about while practicing these displacements to make them easier to hear/play.  I'm super interested in polyrhythms and rhythmic displacement (although i see them really as the same thing because when you displace the rhythm you are creating a polyrhythm with the downbeat, whether you are playing the downbeat or not *the example above being a 4 over 3, 4 being the accents and 3 being the downbeats, i know you know this but I'm giving explanation to anyone who maybe be reading and confused).  Anyways, books, videos, and resources for learning these are much appreciated.

Thanks So Much
Mike

I don't know of any DVDs that address this specific topic, but there are many drummers with instructional DVDs who use rhythmic displacement.

For now, let me suggest the following:

Future Sounds (with CD) by David Garibaldi

All of the Gary Chaffee books are good and will help you with your journey as well. I've got them listed here: http://www.drummercafe.com/content/view/32/19/

Start with that and if you need more suggestions, let me know.
