It is with tremendous sadness that we must share with all Buddy's fans around the world that Buddy passed away peacefully and quietly at his home last night (Tuesday, February 26, 2008) in Austin, Texas surrounded by his family. Buddy will be greatly missed as a wonderful person and as a truly gifted musician who gave so much to so many through the years.

The family ask for your prayers and that you respect their privacy. A tribute show will be announced within a short period of time and all are welcome to come and share in the magic that was Buddy Miles.

Fans, friends and family will all join in a celebration of the life and music of this talented and big hearted musician, so we hope everyone can be a part of this fond farewell.

God Bless each of you, Buddy truly appreciated EACH AND EVERYONE OF YOU.

Buddys red white and blue kit is etched in my mind. His NAME is etched in my mind from my youth. I remember putting a sparkly red white and blue hand giving the peace sign sticker on each of my mount toms because of Buddy. Im sure Buddy was a part of most of us elder statesmen here. Buddy was thee man. Ill get to shake his hand and thank Jesus for him one day.

I listened to Buddy quite a bit. The man knew how to cook in a style of his own. Buddy, you made your own way to the top. Many musicians and fans are going to miss you.  Sad

Saw him with Jimi Hendrix at the Fillmore West around 1969.  Such a groovy musician-quite inspirational to me.  He was fantastic.

Buddy Miles was one of my earliest musical influences.  I listened to Band of Gypsies when I was 5 years old. (What can I say, I had a hippie kindergarten teacher...)

I just got back after stopping by the old Filmore East building on 2nd Ave to pay my respects; I left a pair of drumsticks on the wall just in case Buddy stops by on his way out of town.

I'll betcha these two are in the middle of an amazing set right about now...

I remember just burning the grooves off of the Electric Flag album, especially Them Changes and Funky Mule.

And let's not forget that Buddy was the lead singing voice of the "California Raisins", the clay-mation cover of I Heard It Through The Grapevine as well as the lead character voice for the TV series.  (Check this article from LA-LA Land's LA Times: http://www.latimes.com/entertainment/news/music/la-me-miles28feb28,1,3956580.story).

Man, sad news. Hats off to Buddy, like someone else already said, what a groove meister. Yet another guy, IMO, who doesn't get the props he deserved.
