Hey all:

Thought I should hip you to something that I think was really cool.  Here's how it happened:
One of the members of my forum suggested we try to play something together.
i was thinking, Cool!  i've been daydreaming about doing a drum only record and thought having to mix a whole bunch of drummers would be a great learning experience for me - and even better, for the participants!

So.  i suggested a tempo from the free  download of play along songs from my trio record, "Out The Door".  The song is titled, "Best Buddies".    The instructions were to play something to that tempo and then i will put it together.

We had about a dozen participants from ALL over the world.  This will be a yearly thing for sure!  IT was really fun.  You can listen to it by finding the links on my home page:
http://www.billyward.com/

(just scroll down - it's all there.)

And you can also download my mix notes at the same place - they are probably helpful.  this taught me a bunch - next year's well be better - more interesting and more lessons!  Smiley

Thought you might like to check it out - it isn't everyday you hear a free form kind of exploding drum thang!  i hope you enjoy it!

Very cool Billy; congrats! The concept is a lot like what we've been doing here for the past three years ... the Drummer Cafe Community Drum Solo.

Here's our solos from the last two years, in case you didn't check it out before:

Bart - That is really cool!  So each soloist played to a drum machine pattern you gave out?

Great stuff!

Yeah, although it wasn't a drum machine loop but rather a live percussion I played acoustically then looped it. I took 4 or 8 bars of what I played ... looped it so that the loop was about a minute long. This gave each person enough time to get into it then solo for 16+ bars. Imported it all into Pro Tools, mixed it down. Oh, I had everyone start the solo with a crash so there was a distinct point to lock each track to the grid. Lastly I didn't have soloists record the loop they were playing to ... just their drums.

It's that time again for us to have our annual community solo ... maybe you can participate this year Billy!  Cool

Congrats again to your first community piece ... sounds very cool.

Bart, I'm looking forward to the next community solo.  I was too new to catch the last wave, but I'd really like to jump in this time.
