I am very pleased to report that a
2008 Boston Tour
was announced.

And while no one will ever replace beloved Brad Delp - bless his soul - I do think
there is some beautiful music left in the Boston project and Tom Scholz.

That's right folks.  While I'm a New Yawker and a Yankee fan down to
my DNA, I have a special place in my heart for music of the name - Boston.     
[I forgave Tom for naming the band that many years ago.     ]

Seriously, I love that music very much, and I am really excited about the possibility
of catching Tom and co. one more time - with my two oldest in tow who also now love
Boston very much.

Our bass player was invited to an audition with the Boston guys under a different name years ago. Unfortunately no drumming cattle calls. I quite liked Bostons original drummer. Their debut album was a definite fave of mine.

Would that be Orion the Hunter?  Most of the guys from Boston did that project.  Sadly, there are absolutely no liner notes to tell you anything about it.  Either way though, if you're a Boston fan, that CD is an absolute must.

Gasp.  Will Tom be in town, too?

I think we have to discuss this offline.   

I looked at the title of the thread for a bit and thinking, "geez, NY Frank is is really going places... " before I remembered Boston was a band.

Yes - it will never be the same.  But things change.
I personally would rather see Tom Scholz record and tour with other
people - than not.

It will be different - but it can still be great.

Understandable. I don't think Brad Delp is replaceable. He was incredible. Saying that, though, I am still glad they are doing what they are doing.

Please note that Boston was always - Tom Scholz.

I don't want to start a big debate here, but, Boston was indeed Tom Scholz.
His contract.   His - largely - writing, producing, and instrumental performing.
Yes, Brad is a big part of the sound, and yes, the other original members contributed bits, but frankly, it really was Bits. 

If you want to argue that it's not Boston with Brad, I won't get into that with you.
Although I'm super pleased there is more Boston in our future.

If you want to argue that it's not Boston because of the lack of the original members, I'd have to engage in that one.  We haven't had the original members since Third Stage, which is an amazing, amazing  recording. 

The touring bands who have supported the Boston music over the years can stand toe to toe with most players on the planet.

Welcome back, Tom.

[Actually, while I know Tom would never do this, I almost think he Should record and tour under a new name.  It would get the Boston monkey off his back.   Details of that statement are too much for a forum post.]

I will concur, not that he would do it, but coming out under a different name would "work". Of course, it would not generate the interest or the money that "Boston" does. As far as your choice......yeah...we'll LEAVE that one alone.

I'll also give you Tom being "boston", but like I said, I saw the new line-up and is not Boston-esque. But it was joy seeing Tom play and he looked VERY happy. Can't ask for more than that for him.

It's ok for us to disagree on this.     That's what makes the world go around.

Coupla more cents:

- Some people who dismiss the music after the second album really didn't listen to 3rd Stage a whole lot.  Can't You See is a Beautiful, superbly crafted tune, and HollyAnne - which most people aren't aware of - is like a violin concerto.  [when you subtract the
somewhat cheesy drums on that track.    ]

- Boston is much more about the recordings than the touring players.  That starts and ends with Tom Scholz.
