Such a beautiful line. I've never had a DW kit but I have always admired what they do. Nice kit, Mr. Ward.  Smiley

That set is so gorgeous it hurts.  Cheesy

I haven't checked yet but is this different from the set he uses on  the "Voices in my Head" DVD? He uses two different kits and one of them is the new Jazz series (I believe).

I don't know whether these are the new 'X' shell drums or...?

I recently played at a company jam session at the Daddario/Evans offices here in SoCal. Daddario president Rick Drumm (industry vet, formerly of Remo) was there and sat in. I got to talk with him a bit and one thing I mentioned was what a valuable endorsee Billy was for Evans (as well as Zildjian and DW). I mentioned that Billy's such a great player but makes drumming look fun as he is such a strong proponent of sound. He does that on both the Big Time and 'Voices' DVD. DW gets great props (OK...If I'm hip I know I'm supposed to write 'mad props'.....just can't do it) as Billy gushes over the sound of the drums like a proud parent. You can say that the VIMH DVD is a DW production so it would follow that he would. However he does similar things on Big Time on his own dime. He just loves these drums as well as his heads and cymbals. Heck, I have two gorgeous sets (Gretsch and Yamaha) and I want some of those birch DW's he plays after watching the videos for awhile.

On another note, I was able to play some of the 'pre-announcment' Jazz series drums about a year and a half ago at the Hollywood Vintage and Custom drum show. They sounded wonderful. Very 'Gretschy'. Back then they were just saying that the shells were gum/maple (or something like that) with no series name attached. I had fun playing them and heard others play them while standing back. Very nice either way.

But....

They didn't look like these supermodels. EEeeeee...... get 'em outta' my sight before I'm living in my car...sleeping next to drums.  Cool

Cavanman-  what you said! +1!

I'm filled with DrumLust too, for the BW-DW kit, like Felix said.  Funnee, b'cuz I play a DW 16x22 kick and 2 Gretsch toms. I picked up a 14x20 Rogers, tuned it old school for jazzier gigs.

---- I already have that stuff!!!!----

so WHY do I want to basically DUPLICATE it with new stuff??!!
Because.The.Finish.Is.So.Beautiful.

Have I become a FURNITURE freak!!??   (I need to go drill some holes in my BD...)

I can just see that crushed purple satin shirt going crazy on that sports car kit. Ive got a plan: the next time i see little Billy ill slip somethin into his Pepsi while a couple hired thugs get that shirt for me. (ILL) be wearing it in MY next video entitled small time. Im also gonna go through his van outside and nab that 5x13 aluminum drum. Sorry Billy, only the strong survive. Like Axl said, its a jungle out there Grin.

Too funny!!!  Well, I guess I have to start watching what is in my bevvies!!!  Cheesy

this kit is stupid beautiful for sure.  I have been playing it to try to get over how pretty it is...
the tech stuff is:

DW Jazz series toms and snare (8X12 /14X14 and 16X16 w. 5X14 snare) and all with die cast hoops (in totally gorgeous black chrome... shiny and black - go figure!

bass drums are 16X23 and 14X20 - both in X-shell configuration.  How low can you go?

this stuff is amazing - also, note the retro tom mount and the cymbal arm mounting on the bass drums.  The idea was that the 20 kick is for jazzy stuff - or motown kind of pop-ish stuff.  The 23 is for end of the world pop music.
But I've had some time to myself and I'm playing them both courtesy of double pedals..
not so much fugga dugga stuff - as simply choosing a sound for the bottom - for the kick.
I'm truly a lucky guy,

Fellow drummers:  I had wanted to add (and forgot) that there are more close up drum porn pics at my website.  www.billyward.com and enter the forum.

Or... click here to go directly to the thread with the pics:

I'm starting to get used to these, but they are REALLY scary pretty!
