Since the original post was regarding Pearl Session Customs with opti-mounts, I can tell you one set of bags that does fit without ordering larger sizes.  Humes & Berg Galaxy Bags.  I have fusion size Peal Sessions and they fit into these H&B fusion bags, opti-mounts and all.  Galaxy bags are great bags for the cash.

Search the cafe for comments from Mr. A on Galaxy bags for a good description.

You might have trouble finding these nowadays, but I know Steve Weiss Music still has them.  I just bought a few more for my snare drums.

Anyone know why the Humes and Berg are not more available?  Looks like a great value.  I still need to get some for the new pieces I've added.

Tuxedo Bags?  I've never had a problem finding them.  I just bought a medium sized hardware bag last week from my local drum shop, The Drum Pad.

While you are entitled to your opinion, please note that Beato has several lines of bags and while some of them aren't worth much, some of them are very amply padded.
That's right!  Some drummers much prefer the Beato Pro 1 Series over the PR bags.  Even the Curdura Deluxe and regular Curdura bags are on par with PR.  It's just with Beato bags you're going to pay more.  So at their price point, the PR bags are a great value in my opinion.

I'm sorry for the confusion.  You can find many H&B bag and case models easily.  It is just the Galaxy model bag that I found more difficult to find over the last year.  That said, Steve Weiss was still carrying the H&B Galaxy bags last time I needed some.  There are lots of good values in bags and cases in various brands.  Lately, I like the H&B Galaxy model bags.  And as I posted earlier, these fusion size bags do fit over Pearl opti-mounts without up-sizing.

Yep, that's what I meant, the Galaxy bags.  I could only find them online from Steve Weiss Music. I have nothing against Steve Weiss but I've never purchased from them before and prefer to use the merchants I already have an account with.  But that's another problem.  It just seems that they, the Galaxy series, would be available from the major online stores.

Here's the Galaxy bags on Amazon, but only in 5-pc sets ...
Galaxy 5 Piece Bag Set Standard Sizes

If I remember correctly Mister Acrolite bought some of these bags and felt that they were comparable to the Tuxedo Bags; he didn't see much difference. Now that he's lived with them for awhile, perhaps he'll chime in and give you an update.

I'm a Beato fan myself. If you find any Porcaro bags, Beato makes them as well. I've got a few Porcaro bags for my Djembes.

You shouldn't have to order larger sizes to accommodate the Opti-mounts, especially when dealing with a soft bag. I have RIMS on all my drums and have a wide variety of soft and hard shell cases ... and do not have to size up. I place the mount in the corner of the hard shell case, and near the zipper/handle on soft bags. It's snug, but that's what you want in a case. A drum moving around in a case isn't going to be protected well.

Unfortunately Amazon doesn't seem to have the fusion size package.  Again not a good selection on the major online stores.

And regarding sizing up unfortunately again, the beato bags I ordered a while back wouldn't fit my toms no matter how I positioned them.  I'm a little more careful now about the bag sizes.

I guess your mounts really stick out away from the drum. The RIMS with Yamaha Tom mounts has a really low profile. Even with the Pearl Tom mounts on RIMS it wasn't a problem. In the future, I'll refrain from suggesting you don't need to check. Sometimes soft bags can be off a bit size wise.

You might be right but I've been able to use regular sizes before.  I'm trying to find dimensions for the different suspension systems and can't find anything. It would be useful if members measured and posted the dimensions on their systems.  Like you Bart, I've typically positioned the protruding part of the suspension ring near the zipper end and they have generally fit, just not with the last set of Beatos.

It would be useful if members measured and posted the dimensions on their systems.  I took some measurements and here's what I have the for my Taye Studio Maples..

It seemed to make sense to measure distances from outer shell.
To OD (outside diameter) on hoop... 1/2 inch
To outer part of lug 7/8 inch
To outer part of suspension ring (the wing nut on the Taye) 3 3/8 inch

So the protruding part (mount & wing nut) of the suspension ring is approx 2 1/2 inches beyond the normal diameter.  Anyone else got some measurements?

I bought most of my Galaxy bags from Long Island drums, wwwlidrum.com. Not easy to follow their listings but they list ALL Galaxy sizes and packs.

I have a couple Tuxedo bags for my smallest toms and the Tuxedo seems to be made better, slightly different cordura but not any more padding than the Galaxy. The foam MAY be very slightly denser.
