hey guys, id say for the past 6 months my wrists and arms have been achin alot when i drum, and i cannot pull off what i used to be able to do. Its the most frustrating of things, my speeds decreased, mainly single strokes, my feel has gone. My arms feel like two blocks of wood. I dont know if its because i spend too much time on this laptop maybe?! The heat from it seems to hurt my wrists.  My biceps are usually feeling strained too. My arms tire after one song? Whats going on? RSI? I was workking out alot but i cut down doing that....god im scared

I had a buddy who worked out with weights. His forearms, wrists, and bicepts were huge because he did it everyday for several hours. He died quite young.  Roll Eyes  I done roofing/construction by the old method with a hammer for several years. I had to relax my wrists, then shake them, and loosen up before a gig. I quit doing roofing, but still I relax and loosen up my wrists before I play. I would say just back off for a bit and give your body a rest. I have an old school buddy who's also my family doctor. The best advice he's given me is, "If it hurts, don't do it. Your body will tell you when to back off if you listen to it."
I've learned the value of that lesson the hard way. Tongue

May not be just one thing.  Laptops = bad ergonomics.  When you drum, are you loose or tight, are you self taught and picked up bad habits??  If I continued playing like I started in the old days, my hands would be useless...  Drumming is very physical so you should get some expert advice, just like an athlete when they are injured.

When your body hurts something is wrong!  The quickest and most reliable method of determining the cause is consulting with a doctor, preferably one who specializes in sports medicine.  THEN follow his advice!

I don't think you'll find an answer on this or any other forum.  You need to get to a good orthopedist and tell them all your symptoms and let them run the appropriate tests.  Good Luck and I hope you're feeling better soon.

FYI just in case you don't know what an orthopedist is ~ Orthopedics is a medical specialty that deals with musculoskeletal system. An orthopedist, also called an orthopedic surgeon, is a physician who specializes in treating disorders of the musculoskeletal system-the system of the body that includes bones, joints, muscles, tendons, ligaments, nerves, skin, and any structures related to them.
