I just bought a ludwig 400 on ebay from a retired pro and it has fan belts glued under the bearing edges.   Has anyone heard of this practice before?
I must say that the drum sounds great.

I'm guessing it's to dry the drum up a bit, take some (or all?) of the ring out.  Interesting.

This was common for some studio guys in the 70s. I think I read about it in a Steve Gadd interview in MD many years ago. Never tried it, though.

I just found out most of the recordings I'm on were actually played by Bernard Purdie.

I don't get to play it till Wednesday.  I just put the heads back on and she's shouting at me already.  I'll let you know how it plays.
Paicy,  I just got an email from the seller, he says the fan belt is from a red 65 mustang convertable, apparently anything else is a waste of time and money ;javascript:void(0)Wink
