Well, I looked in the recent modern drummer magazine at GC, and found a brief article about these heads...

http://www.remo.com/portal/products/3/8/711/ds_black_suede.html

So I was thinking that these would be more for marching snares or tenors.

Anyone know anything about em?

Well, Remo has their Ebony Ambassador, Pinstripe, and PowerStroke3 heads.

The Suede heads are a fairly recent invention (I think - sometime in the last few years) that have texturing on the top and bottom of the heads.  I believe they're supposed to offer more of a traditional sound, though I haven't tried any.

These are basically their Ebony equivalents in the Suede style.

They're listed as giving a warm sound good for snare and toms, and the link you gave is in the drumset section of Remo's website.

For a black marching snare head, it looks like you'd need the Black Max.  There are both Ebony and Ebony Suede heads for marching tenor drums.

Yeah, I was just wondering if it was because I have a friend that has a Pearl Marching snare with a remo suede head on it, and it is very poppy and controlled.  Despite it being a marching snare.  But they do look very interesting, I was expecting that they'd sound a bit more punchy than the ebony pinstripes.

I am going to try these heads.  I am currently using Aquarian Jack Dejohnnette heads which are single ply coated black heads.

I am probably going Ebony Suede Ambassador on snare and Ebony Suede Emperor on the 12 and 14 toms.

So I just went to GC last night and they had the Black Suedes mounted up on a Pearl Vision maple kit.  They sound GREAT!  I really love the classic tom sound they give, high attack but smooth 80's rock sort of feel. Sounded like I should be in a stadium.  I'm buying  a new kit this weekend and I think I may give them a shot. I've been an Evans G2 coated man for quite a few years now.

Yeah, i did too, it was at my local GC on a Ddrum dominion kit.... I was amazed...  Such great stick definition, and very low end growl feature of the G2.... I love it... I'm going goin for it on my next head renewals as well.
