DRUMMER CAFE

Calling all drummers in and around the Nashville area.  I propose a hang in the near future.  Meet somewhere (Mafiaoza's?) where we can get together and discuss what we're up to.  Whatcha think?

I've been trying to put together a Drummer Cafe hang for sometime here in Nashville. The problem is finding a venue that would allow me to do what I want to do. We can meet anywhere I guess, grab coffee, a drink, or a meal.

The other problem with Nashville is that everyone is so busy, which doesn't always mean $$$ lest you get the wrong idea. 

There used to be a pro drummers luncheon here in Nashville years ago, and they stopped right when I moved here almost 6 years ago.

Carl ... I think it's a good idea. If you want to organize that hang, I'm down with that. In the mean time be on the lookout for a venue where we could have a night where we can have a meeting ... like a guest speaker, maybe some performance(s), food, etc. I guess I'm wanting to have more of a club style meeting, but no membership is required.

I just coordinated a hang in L.A. for So. California members of Drumsmith.com, and it was pretty cool! We also welcomed some players who aren't really forum members, but it was nice for a lot of us to put faces with names. I met a lot of people for the first time that night.

How it worked: we were able to get a local shop to stay open a few Sundays ago (it also helps that one of the forum members is closely connected with the shop!) and brought a kit in so drummers wouldn't beat up the new kits on the floor. A few guitar players and a bass player were also invited and there was quite a jam going on.

We did it around dinnertime, and I brought pizza, Subway, snacks & drinks. The shop also agreed to let us do some trading among ourselves, and some drummers just brought some cool stuff to show off.

But if there was a difficult part, it was finding a night that everyone could make it. In fact, after several weeks of Q&A, it turned out that there was no such night. We picked a night with the fewest potential MIA's and agreed that would be best. As it turns out, the very person who proposed the hang wasn't able to make it.

There are a bunch of people here from the tri-state area.

I think a fun hang for the NYers could be - hitting Birdland together.  Haven't been there,
and I'm planning on going soon.
