The Drummer Cafe rocks!

Anyone know about the Musician's Atlas directory? I am curious about it and what it's good for? I always see it at my Border's bookstore, is it just a directory full of contacts in the music biz, agents, venues etc.? Would it be a good idea to pick it up for a solo musician trying to get gigs or contacts? Thanks.

If you can afford the $33, why not?
As long as you realise it'll end up being more of a reference tool than a route to more (and better) gigs. The majority of people in the book will ignore demo tapes, or cold calling.
People move around alot too. So although the book is 2008, it might be half wrong by 2009.

It seems that in the local/regional touring band industry that I find myself in, the interent is the best place to find contacts and how most booking gets done.

And Drumwiz is right, I find that even my personal 'black book' of promoters, venues, and bands gets outdated in a matter of months.

I feel like things vary quite a bit between music genres, so a book that just kind of sweeps the category of "music business professionals " might miss some important niches.
