BTW, mahogany. My Premier (APK, ca. 1990-92, made in England) was probably made mostly of mahogany, and I didn't think it was top wood for drums. Any opinion about this? (Or as I read, it could have been made of 'merranti', of which the dictionary says that it's a kind of rain forest wood mostly found in the Philippines - does anyone know about this? Well, this may be worth a new thread; maybe...) |

USA Gretsch OMG If I wuz a jazzer I would have one. Maybe a Broadkaster with Jasper shells. Those things sound so amazing. I had a chance to buy a 5pc for 2100 dollars and I just could not afford it at the time. I had heard this drumset at a gig too- the way the guy played and had them tuned really was amazing.

Oh I see. I didn't know Sonor kits were so interesting in the US. They're too common and not so favourable over here in Europe. I think DW is coming in fashion over here these days, even though the price is is far too higher than over there. |

ehh. doesn't do anything for me. Must be the lighting but the brown is just "off" in my opinion in this shot. It doesn't look like real wood.

You always want what you can't have. Since the late 80's you can't go into a drumshop in the U.S. without tripping over a set of DW's. Sonor Phonic? Sheesh, they are scarce. The Force series you see though. The USA Gretsches aren't real common either, nor Brady or Noble and Cooley kits. At least here in Cleveland. A Brady kit would be interesting. Kelly Brady used to come to DC once in awhile. *NAME DROP ALERT* |

I've never been a particular fan of acrylic drums, but there's something about this particular set that is so very pleasing to my eyes (that it's a Sonor doesn't hurt either). The black chrome, the lugs, the acrylic... It might just be the prettiest kit I've seen. Now, I've never even actually played this kit, but even with that in mind, this kit is topping my wishlist.  |

I guy bought a bop kit of those on the sonor board and did some recordings with them/shared with the peeps. They sounded really good- not like a crappola set of luddy vistalites.

Wow, I can't believe I haven't posted on this thread yet. I think I'd really like to have some Pearl Reference. Looks like they've really put some engineering and research into making these sound their best. Different wood combinations that enhance the sound of each size drum, so each drum may be a different shell composition from whats next to it. Sounds like a really cool concept. Check it out, http://www.pearldrum.com/reference-rf.aspI don't think they really offer a 'kit' in this series, it'd be just a custom order for each set, which is cool. I'm sure astronomically expensive, but I really think that in this case you'd get what you pay for. Jeez, it sounds like I work for Pearl. I don't. Just interested in what they're doing. Looks like some really good stuff from what I read. |

Unfortunately not, but I still love them. Its my first experience with suspended 'floor' toms. They sound like CANNONS! It was a giant step up from my pearl exports for sure (which DID have black hardware  ) |
