Hello, I am buying a ddrum Diablo Death Punx set here in a little while with TWO bass drums, its an awesome set. But I was wondering if the DW 9002 double can be converted into TWO single pedals... it looks like it can. Anyone please HELP!!! I am getting $2000 here soon for selling some stuff (legally lol) and am buying ALL new everything!!!

 Huh ALSO Huh

I was wondering WHAT IS THE BEST HEAD TYPE COMBO!!! I am SORTA new I can play well but dont know alot about the technical stuff. I play Metal/Hard Rock and want something that sounds good but I dont like just a dead THUD I like a great sound, like the Drummer of Trivium the tone in his toms sound great, so any ideas anyone? PLEASE HELP!!! Thanks!!

Hmm... my initial response would have been that you couldn't convert the double, but after looking at pictures on dw's website, I'm not so sure.  It looks like there's a hole for a beater as well as a mount for a spring on the slave, but I don't think I would buy a double pedal with the intention of splitting it into two singles, but you might try it if you already have the double.

As for heads, you probably want double-ply heads for durability, but to keep a more open sound, don't get ones with a muffling ply, you'll want something like Remo Emperor, Evans G2, or Aquarian Response 2.  The guy from Trivium uses Emperors over Ambassadors.

Personally I prefer Evans EC2's on top with G1's on the bottoms for the toms.  These heads offer a lot of flexibility in tuning...they sound good hi or low.

On my snare I use Genera HD Dry and on my bass drum I use the EMAD.

Keep in mind, heads are a personal choice.  If you find heads you like use them...but don't be afraid to shop around in an effort to find the sound that you like best!

I endorse Evans and believe they make a great head...but there are many great heads on the market.

Good luck...

I am unsure if you can or not but here is a good link on an very informirtive thread about the top pedals. http://www.pearldrummersforum.com/showthread.php?t=60291
Your question may have been covered in that thread at some point!

I read nearly all of this thread during my search for a double pedal(can't remeber if your question came up).  I finally ended up with none of the "top 4" but the flying dragons as it felt best to me when trying them all and others.

Nope you can't do that as far as I know. However you can take the beater and send it over to your second pedal. How ever it still wouldnt be as smooth as having two single 9000's. For heads, I play Aquarian Performance II heads. They sound fantastic and are great for metal!

In my experience with these heads, they're going to give closer to the thud sound that WesNyle didn't want to have.  Some of that can be avoided with tuning and mics and such, but the Performance II heads are thick heads with a muffling ring.  If you're not using mics and want a livelier sound, it would probably be better to use heads without muffling built into them.

I've owned 2 double pedals in my life, a Pulse and a Yamaha. Both of those were able to be converted into 2 single pedals so I don't know why this one wouldn't be. As for the heads I like my Evans G2 coated heads. They're nice and warm. Perfect for the sound I want.

I own a 9002. It is not possible to split into separate pedals without buying some additional parts, because there is a part missing needed to attach the spring to slave pedal shaft.

And yes, it is possible to send the beater to the slave cam.

If you're planning on buying the 9000 to split, i might suggest looking at the axis pedals which are absolutly easy to split.

Heads: I also play tech metal of a fast sort, I am currently playing an old pearl export set (yes, by choice).  It sounds really darn good if you know how to tune it up. I'm playing evans G2 coated on the top of the toms and evans black reso on the bottom.  This gives me a nice full sound with some sustain, but not too much to become muddy at speed.  On the bass I played the EMAD2 forever, and I loved the sound (a healthy thump with some body behind it) but the plastic ring kept breaking off.  I have recently switched to the SK1 and I'm quite happy. Remo makes a  new head with external damping that looks pretty interesting.

Let us know what you end up with!
