Great Quotes

"I think there's been a lot of overemphasizing of the technical thing ... you've got to feel the music and you've got to groove on the music. That's so much more important to me than chops."

I've only been a member here for about a year or so: just wondering if any of the veterans can remember what some of the longest running threads were, how long, and what they were about.

I notice that the "Neil Peart" and "traditional vs brilliant finish" thread has got some good legs, but how do they compare to the monsters of the past?

Anybody?

i know there've been many, probably including stuff like 'who's the best drummer?', but the one i was always curious about that i never actually read was one on "24th notes."

i remember it stirred quite the controversy, and now i regret not reading it, because last week, a friend of mine said something like 'those are 24th note triplets' and i almost had a heart attack. i wanted to draw on that thread to set her straight.

another time i posted the question 'what made the great drummers great?' and that also turned into a spin session/admonishment of epic proportions.

i'm sure there are many other egs!

A couple of years ago there was a series of "I love John Bonham/I hate John Bonham" threads and "who is the best drummer" threads that hung in there for a while.

Those threads mostly start out fine, but before long they get off topic, get all personal, go all pear-shaped and deteriorate into protracted bouts of urinary warfare.  They're totally meaningless, but they're fun to watch from the sidelines.

Also a couple of years ago, someone started a "Three Word Story" in the Miscellaneous section.  Each post consisted of three words added by each subsequent poster.  Each new set of three words added in some way to the previous post and carried the story along, often in interesting directions.  That thread - while it had nothing to do with drumming - went on for quite a while.

If you want to know the "real" longest thread, you can click MORE STATS on the main page of the forum to see the Top 10 threads based on Replies or Views.

But like others have mentioned ... there have been a lot of HOT subjects over the years.  Wink

Thanks for the stats Bart,
Not too surprised to see most of the popular threads have to do with us showing off our own gear/skills.

But I must say, Dave Heim's post including "urinary warfare" is exactly the kind of anecdote I was hoping for!   Grin
