I have used all of the above for hi hats when playing double bass.  Most recently I have just added the Tama Cobra Clutch which I have to say is great but there are some installation problems with getting it attached in a comfortable manner to my hi hat stand.  I had to do some minor modifications but all in all it works great.  Just would like to get some other opinions on the preferred method of others who might have the new cobra clutch.....

I voted for drop clutch but ideally I like having a drop clutch and auxiliary hats both. I have done that in the past but with wanting a minimalistic set up now for ease, drop clutch is plenty good enough for me.

Right now I don't play double bass, but when I do I intend to master (or at least do a @$%# good job trying Tongue) the Cobra Clutch. Pre-Cobra Clutch I would have said drop clutch - a second pair of hats seem rather unnecessary to me.

I'd consider aux hats though, if I were gunning for a setup like Kenny Aronoff's.

I voted for aux hats, but that cobra clutch looks really cool!
Something else for me to consider when I get my double pedal.

*hint hint*  yeah I decided to keep my 5002.  With the way prices are going it makes no sense to sell perfectly good gear.

But I play dbl pdl with the hats as they are.  I have a clutch but it's junky.  Would not mind finding a better one.

I have both a drop clutch on my hats and an aux hat that can be preset.  My current drop clutch is made by DW, it works great.  Some of the other drop clutches I've tried had a little play in them which was annoying when playing standard open/close stuff.

Having 2 hats is very convenient.  Yeah you can do without it, I did for many years but now that I have it, I really like it.

I have a drop clutch in case I need it, but if I play double bass (which isn't very often at all) I usually leave my hats open.

I'd like to get aux hats at some point, but that's more because I feel more comfortable riding open-handed (ie. hihats/ride/whatever else on my right side), not so much because of double bass work.
