Great Quotes

"I think there's been a lot of overemphasizing of the technical thing ... you've got to feel the music and you've got to groove on the music. That's so much more important to me than chops."

I was listening to the Joe Cocker version of Unchain My Heart today in preparation for a gig with a Soul/RnB band and as I enjoyed the rock solid pocket I asked myself, "Whatever happened to David Beal?" In the 80's and early 90's his name was frequently mentioned in Modern Drummer (he may have even been a cover story or at least a cover byline if I remember correctly), he played on some great albums and he did some interesting electronic percussion work with Michael Shrieve. But I haven't heard anything about him in years. I googled him and came up with nothing current, just pages related to the work I mentioned above. Does anyone have any information about what happened to him?  He was a great player and it's odd that he hasn't poked his head above water on any big projects that I know of.  I hope nothing untoward happened?
