Getting ready to play a huge festival June 7 so I went out to the pole barn to practice the set lists but literally stumbled upon my old remake CD of Little Feat Waiting For Columbus.  Decided to forego the set list and played to the entire double cd which I have not played to in quite a long time.  Forgot to mention Richie Hayward when someone posted underrated drummers.  I had the pleasure of seeing Little Feat live back in DC and had the honor of seeing Lowell George' last show.  To any of you younger drummers who are not familiar with Little Feat and probably one of the best live recorded albums ever, Waiting For Columbus, I strongly suggest you get a copy of this and just listen.  This band was so tight together along with the Tower Of Power horn section, it is a shame that no one wants to play this style, or it is hard to find musicians who are willing to.  I even opted to not wear my headphones and crank it up through the PA, my wife even commented that it was one hell of a good practice, I was rippin it up for at least 3 hours, she said even the neighbors were lovin it, and I live in the sticks far away from anyone.  Really got in my zone today, its bands like this that remind me of why I am still playing and why I love it so much.  Just so pumped that I needed to share these feelings with people who can appreciate where I'm coming from.....Thanks for reading this...

Yeah.
Richie Hayward's playing is not that easy to emulate.

Yeah, that's the great stuff there, TUNELOW!

Richie's definitely a favorite and as Chrisso mentioned, difficult to emulate.  I've played along to his grooves for years, just trying to get in his mindframe.  Never can make it sound exactly like him, but it sure is fun trying.

Congrats on the smokin' practice.  Sounds like a blast!

Im ashamed to say that I havent listened to Ritchie much. My band mates all love Little Feet and being one track minded as a lil tike my musical pallet didnt allow to much variety. Ive read many times where Ritchie was and is a favorite of theirs in Modern Drummer. Im going to purposely listen to Ritchie and TuneLow I can relate to your fondness of yesteryears drum Gods.

I seen Little Feet play here in MN many years ago. A friend turned me on to them. Very good band, thanks for reminding me of them and bringing back those old memories.  Cool

I always liked Hayward's drumming on this fusion style song in 6/4:

Thanks for this thread.

While I have heard the names many times, I'm admittedly completely
unfamiliar with the music.  I just listened to Chris's YouTube link.
Man that feels gooooood.  Great, great stuff.

I think you guys just sold a CD.  Gotta check this out further.

Hey Frank,

A great starting point is Dixie Chicken.  Little Feat circa 1973.

Tasty stuff.

Chris, I can't thank you enough for those clips, things of beauty, wow, what a zone Richie was in on that Day At The Dog Races clip, felt as if I was there.  Like I said that is one of the reasons I LOVE music and love being able to play, no better high in the world when you hit a groove like that.  I seem to remember another clip I have seen in the past of a certain drummer with Dire Straits at some stadium playing Calling Elvis, another wow factor, what a groove the drummer and percussionist had going, very envious I ammmmmm.  Thanks again......

I also really liked the home video of Time Loves A Hero at The House Of Blues....

That groove was all in the percussion.  Wink

RE: Little Feat
That's my favourite album; 'Time Loves a Hero'.
Day At The Dog Races is one of the cuts. I also like 'Red Streamliner'.
Most Feat fans love the earlier stuff though (like 'Dixie Chicken').

Gang, count me in as diggin that tune. Ritchie was layin it and holding it down!. That kind of stuff is SO tempting to just GO OFF on but the Ritchmeister just stayed the course which was admirable. That kind of thing reminds me of a great tune for a television car chase. I also liked Ritchies snare sound on that tune, punchy, dry, fat. This is my kinda stuff. Ill pick it up this week-end. Nice find Chris.

I can honestly say that Red Streamliner (Rollin)............is one of my all time favorite songs.  Not to sound like an idiot but just my personal opinion, but somehow the bridge just does not fit with that tune, I am sure it was that way on purpose, I would have approached it differently.  Like I said, don't listen too me, just thinking out loud....
