I'm excited about getting a chance to see a reunion of Return to Forever.. I'm not sure I'll be in town when they are here but it would be great to go. This band (and a couple others) changed my thinking about music back in the day. Anyone else planning on going?

neat! that'd be cool if they did an outdoor gig. and cooler still if lots of people brought their kids to witness something different.
I caught lenny a few years ago playing with larry coryell, and it was a very different gig. very laid-back and bluesy. he had a minimal set-up and I don't think took a solo. it'll be nice to see him letting it all hang out!

There's been talk of a new CD with new material but I read that Chick said a performance DVD/CD is more likely. You know there will be youtub vids

My ex-gf called a couple of weeks ago all excited to tell me that she'd scored two primo tickets for the RTF show in Dallas on June 1, and asked me to go with her. I can't wait to see it.

Very true. My ex-wife and me are brother and sister now. As for the RTF show, I wish I could go there.

I just got home from the Dallas performance. Holy S**t!!! If they come anywhere near you, hock the silver, pimp the wife, do whatever it takes to get tickets. It was amazing. Ex-gf said Stanley's upright solo alone was worth the price of the tickets, and I totally agree. The crowd gave standing O's several times, and each was well deserved.
I was really curious how the songs would sound after 30 years, and frankly they were as fresh as if they'd been recorded last week. The soloing was stellar, and the interplay between the musicians was outstanding.
Lenny had white Innovation drums, looked like 12/13 on top with 14/16/18 floor toms and 22" kick. Couldn't see the bass drum, but all his drums sounded terrific. One of the best tuned kits I've heard in a while, and his solo really demonstrated their dynamic range.
The concert was almost 3 hours, with a 20 minute break in the middle. If I could I'd go see them tomorrow, or where and whenever they're playing next.

cool beans, paul! now I'm all worked up. 2 lenny things: --I heard through that he is nursing an injury, so it's exciting to hear that his solo is still hot --lenny recounts a funny story on the rtf website. there's a vid where he reminisces about the band's visit to patrick moraz's [ex-sometime-yes keys guy] house years back. steve howe's wife was there, too. lenny played her stuff from rtf. she said, 'wow, that's amazing! must've taken a long time to record.' he said, 'yes, 11 days.' she said, '11 days? these guys take 11 months to get a snare sound!' I thought it was very funny, as I've heard many stories about that band's [yes's] sonic retentivity. anyhow, gotta consider getting tkts. but first, a mortgage, as VIP guest packages are going for $500 a pop! regular seats ain't so cheap, either. I needs me a sugar daddy!

Got tickets for the June 21 show in Detroit. I saw them back in the 70's in Wash. D.C.. I too was changed by their music. I guess you could say that myself and a couple of other guys I played with were considered freaks. As teenagers we were going to see RTF instead of KISS. The show I went to was at Lisner Auditorium, check this out, it was RTF, they opened for John McGlaughlin and the Mahaveishnu(?) Ochestra, and Jean Luc Ponty was the violinist for John then. I will never forget when John was doing a rippin solo he broke a string, well he walks off stage to either get another guitar or replace the string. Anyway you could see him standing backstage signaling Jean Luc to just keep going with his solo, he did what seemed like a 10 minute solo, never seen anything like it since. I also saw Stanley, Jean Luc and Bela Fleck at an outdoor acoustic gig a couple of years ago, and yeah, to see Stanley do his upright solo is phenominal. Better than sex, I'll deny I ever said it....

Going tomorrow! Can't wait - just saw the promo again here on DC-TV and it got all excited again.
Saw them twice back when - and both times was just stunning. A club gig in LA right after Al joining and then later during the Romantic Warrior tour at LA's big symphony hall (the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion). For me, so much of this music has held up so well compositionally with the passing of time. So even if they just re-visit old material, it will be a kick for me.
Like I said - can't wait!!
David

There's very few groups/artists that I'd go pay to see (I'm weird), but this is definitely one group and tour I want to see!
They aren't coming to Nashville (no surprise there), but will be playing within a 4-5 hour drive. Most if not all of the shows this month are sold out already. Can't make the St. Louis date; I'll be up that way next month though.
Guess I'll have to try and catch them in Atlanta on August 2.
For those that are going, be sure to report back here ... and supply in photos you may take. No bootleg video though please.
